I am a physician and launched a salary transparency/crowdsourcing site called Mozibox last year. We expanded into emergency medicine this week, and have 20 salary submissions already. Once we get to 50, the salary dashboards will be released. Here are the dashboards for psych and breast surgery as examples. 😉

The page for EM is www.mozibox.com/em

Your survey doesn't work for my setup. Multiple hospitals of different volumes and pph, RVU hybrid but not some stupid "above x RVU you get y dollars" as we don't know what we get until collections are coming in, we pay employees, etc.

Thanks for your feedback. We hope to capture >90% of the scenarios with our survey, but for the rest, I wonder if it would be helpful if we allowed people to free text more to capture more of the nuances. For those, instead of showing them as part of the aggregate data, these will be shown line by line (still anonymous. with permission). Can I PM you to brainstorm?

Thanks, will do! We are getting close to 50! Hope to be able to release the dashboards and insights for EM sometime next week. Stay tuned!

Thank you! Yes, we are a registered vendor. A bit about myself: I am a physician and my husband is in tech. Salary transparency in tech is 10x that in medicine. My goal is to bring more salary transparency to medicine and to empower more physicians with the tools and transparency needed to navigate their careers with confidence through real-time salary insights, tailored to each specialty.

It’s a good idea.. there are other similar options out there. I actually think in Em specifically salary transparency is pretty easy. If you want some data Mozibox tons of posts on FB about specific jobs with salary data, benefits etc.

Thank you! We are super nimble. All the questions are specific to each specialty. If there are questions people want to be included or changed, let me know and we will change it within 24 hours.

I dunno why people would be against salary transparency
As mentioned there is its own set of self reporting problems.

I have a ton of data but the reporting format is a bit painful. 90% of EM jobs are 1099.. 99% of those are paid some hourly rate. I was gonna fill in the info but it is asking for annual pay and the hours are hard to sort out since most of us live in a $/hr world. Few EM docs are on any sort of salary where we could easily convert this. Speaking for myself my hours are all over the place, I work multiple spots and pay varies at those sites. Need to make the intake format a little wiser to get some meaningful participation.

Thanks for your input. On the second page, under employment type, you can indicate w2 hourly or 1099 hourly and provide the hourly rate. If there are multiple rates, please provide the median number. The base salary can be left 0 if not applicable. We will incorporate your feedback and try to make this better in future versions.

I was trying to be a little kinder to the website. Issue is you need to craft the questions to the ED docs and remove the trash that doesnt belong.

May I DM you? I would love to get your input on how to refine the questions. Our questions are customized to each specialty and can be easily modified. Thank you!

I will add CMG. The current design is so that the first page is customized to each specialty and the rest is the same for all the specialties (from the engineering standpoint, that’s the most scalable way of rolling it out for version 1.0). We will continue to refine and incorporate everyone’s input for future versions. I really appreciate everyone’s input -->> This is how we improve. May I DM you to make sure I fully incorporate your suggestions? Our iteration speed is quick. We can change the survey questions within 24 hours.

You should probably be compensating these people for their information/suggestions on making your survey somewhat legitimate since you seemingly did zero market research into how EM is compensated.

We worked with two ER physicians when developing the survey, but of course, continuous refinement is needed. Totally fair — we launched fast to get the conversation going, knowing we’d need to refine things along the way. Appreciate the feedback — you’re actually helping make the survey better for everyone. We can’t offer cash (yet!), but we do promise eternal gratitude, slightly better data, and a very exclusive spot in the “made-this-better” hall of fame. 😉

Probably should find some more seasoned EM docs who have a pulse on things. I would advise you use those EM docs to peruse the EM docs jobs site as it is mandatory detail to report thing there. You will quickly get 20-30 sites from that public data and you can refine the best way to collect more. I think the idea is noble though as noted it is fraught with issues. Perhaps you can work together with the EM job sites to make it even more powerful.
