(UPDATE on 4/2/2025) preliminary salary insights are now available. See my post below for those data and insights for family medicine.

(Original post from 3/29/2025) I am a physician and launched a salary transparency/crowdsourcing site called Mozibox last year. We expanded into family medicine this week, and have 10 salary submissions already. Once we get to 50, the salary dashboards will be released. Here are the dashboards for psych and breast surgery as examples.

The page for family medicine is www.mozibox.com/familymedicine

Thank you, everyone! We are more than half way through our goal of 50!! If there is any feedback or suggestions on the survey questions, please let me know. We are nimble and can modify as needed based on feedback. 🙂

Thanks to everyone who’s helped spread the word—family medicine just crossed 25 salary data entries! A bit about me: I am a physician, working on a salary transparency platform called Mozibox (www.Mozibox.com). My husband is in tech, where salary transparency is 10x that in medicine. My goal is to bring salary transparency to medicine to empower more physicians with the tools and data we need to navigate our careers with confidence.

Here are the insights based on the entries so far. We're officially halfway to our goal of 50, which is when we’ll be able to unlock the interactive dashboards for family medicine.

Compensation Models & Base Salaries
Owner/Partner (Private Practice)
Salary: $300,000

W-2 RVU-based (Hospital/Health System)
Salaries range widely depending on bonus/RVU setup:
One has $250,000 base with $50,000 bonus and 5,208 RVUs, which implies an RVU rate of ~$48.
Another has $313,000 base, $20,000 bonus, 5,900 RVUs = ~$53 per RVU.

Hybrid + hourly supplement
One physician is W-2 with RVU plus $115/hour for extra shifts.
Bonus is very generous: $250,000 annually, based on RVU, quality metrics, and NPs' performance.
Base: $220,000 — Total comp can exceed $470K when all cash is included.

1099 Contractor (Government)
Hourly rate: $260
No base salary or bonuses, but huge total comp via high hours.

Workload & Hours
Most physicians worked around 32–50 hrs/week, consistent with full-time primary care.

Other Highlights
Call duties: Mostly “yes_limited” or “no_call” — minimal call burden for family medicine.
Urbanicity: Mix of metro_small, metro_mid, and metro_large — salaries are not strongly clustered by metro size in this limited sample.
Populations served:
Most physicians care for adults, many also for geriatrics and minor procedures.
Only a few have obstetrics or behavioral health duties.
Inpatient care: Generally not part of the job, suggesting outpatient-focused practices.

Hope this is helpful so far! Once the dashboards are released, you will have the numbers at your fingertips.
