I was wondering if anyone rotated, interviewed or is currently at Crozer-Chester, Baystate, UMass, Geisinger, or Maine Med doing pediatrics? I am interested in a smaller hospital where I will feel like a medium sized fish in a friendly pond. I am also interested mainly in programs in the Northeast. I am a DO student from Maine and am hoping to find out about these programs from anyone who may have any knowledge about them?

I looked up stuff here and on Scutwork.com but all the stuff is at least 5 years old. And a lot of the stuff is regarding the top tier tertiary programs rather than the smaller community based programs. My fiance is also looking at residencies but most likely in Med-Peds or IM. She is a year ahead of me so we are trying to figure stuff out now since we most likely want to end up someplace together. She is a current 3rd yr DO student.

So any comments on friendliness of residents, teaching, procedures, friendliness towards DO students, acceptance of COMLEX, call schedules, daily schedules, fellowships, or anything else would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I rotated through MMC as a 4th year MS (Cards, Pulm, and Nephro for peds and 2 weeks with the peds CT surgeon and an EM rotation). I loved that hospital-great technology and a friendly atmosphere in the places I encountered. The peds residents seemed very happy then and had a good volume and variety of pathology. Had I a choice in the matter I would have applied there (after doing a sub I) but I was military so it was pointless for me to do so. Multiple DOs are pediatric staff including the head of peds nephrology (Matt Hand, who is great). I always say good things about that place. Mulitple docs at UHC For Kids are MMC alums, including two recent (I met Andrew as an MS and Maggie was a classmate at UNECOM; they are both very nice people). You should talk with them. For a regional program, I always got the feel they were pretty competetive so getting face time is very important. Do a sub-I.

Bump for responses. With nearly 300 looks, some people must be interested. Any comments would be appreciated. THanks.
