Have pt with CRPS after crush injury no improvement with Stellate GB, multiple desensitization and other PT modalites, Cymbalta, Lyrica, Neurontin, Methadone, etc.
Offered SCS trial, which he is not interested, But did ask for a referral to this place

Anybody with any experience with this place? Dr. Kirkpatrick?

Never heard of him but I like how he founded the "research institute" and subsequently had the "honor" of being the chairman of the research committee.

"Some of these treatments, such as conscious sedation with ketamine IV infusions, are critical and not readily available elsewhere in the USA.

Patients who fail to receive this treatment are likely to suffer an acute exacerbation of unbearable pain due to RSD / CRPS. Additionally, there are children who suffer from RSD /CRPS and receive treatments that are only available through Dr. Kirkpatrick."

Why is that, I wonder? Why don't you guys wake up and smell the coffee? Get those ketamine drips running ASAP you dorks. Enough with the SGBs and SCS.

Now let's look at the reimbursement aspect:

"There is an 80% deposit required on all evaluations and procedures. Payment is expected at the time of the visit. The balance will be due no later than 30 days after the service. Payments can be made by cash or credit card. We accept VISA and MASTER CARD.

The Institute is under no obligation to pursue reimbursement on the patient’s behalf other than to provide the patient an insurance claim form."

Why does it make me think of the Laser Spine Institute?

Experimental / Investigational.

Much of the false hope may be financially motivated. How many folks doing ketamine comas for CRPS? Data appears lacking for this procedure.

I would not send my worst enemy to Kirkpatrick. I did my residency at USF and he would refer RSD patients to the "University group" due to being "too complicated". IE he tried some SGB/LSB and no improvement. Hardly evidence for being a world wide expert in RSD.

If someone really wants this Dr House Ketamine voodoo, I think Dr. Abdi at UMiami does it. I would go there first.

FWIW.

Ya, just a lttle to much self-promotion on his sites,
I agree with the Laser spine insitute comparison-which no has asked me about in a month or so.......
looks like they are franchising to Arizona( saw job posting in some journal -looking for PMR pain doc to follow their highly profitable and highly questionable protocols)

in nyc, there are a couple of guys at HSS (number 1 ortho hospital in the country) who admit patients for 5 days to the pacu, place epidural and run ketamine/versed IV and bupiv/fent/clonidine EPI. cash only.

hey are those stellate ganglion reimbursements from 2009??? i thought it was in the 200-400 range depending on hopd or asc rates??? for 2010. thanks.

Isnt this information better suited to be in the Physicians ONly Private Forums? Fellas..

Actually, I think it is a public service to put this out where anyone can read it provided, of course, that they understand that to calculate our reimbursement you need to divide his fees by 10.

patients/public may also misinterpet what may be 'outliers' and then apply this towad ALL pain practices/physicians.

Kirkpatrick is cheap... Schwartzguy in PA charged one of my patients 14k cash for ketamine infusion --- she got 5 days of relief and is thinking about going to see him again.

what is amazing is that it is entirely possible to create a "national institute", market yourself as a "guru", charge cash, advertise... and you will be busier than you could ever imagine because there are so many desperate people... look at the success of LSI...
