Is it possible to get into schools such as Harvard if you have a couple C's on your transcript, but nonetheless have around a 3.6 gpa when it comes to apps time. Are you completely out of the running if you do? I would really like to know this and also does being disadvantaged have any bearing on your grades/admissions? Thank you!

Harvard has no shortage of applicants with no C's and better GPAs, so you'd have to have something very impressive that they don't have. Simply being disadvantaged won't be enough although it probably could help.

+find cure for cancer, AIDS

well i have one c on my transcript, as well as several b-'s.. but i got an interview at yale and hopkins so far. aaand to my knowledge, i havent cured cancer yet, so dont lose hope.

in the MSAR they write "academic excellence is expected"

so be warned, they don't just look for good grades, but generally assume that you will have them PLUS something else that makes you a stellar applicant.

not saying it isn't possible, but just having a 3.6 will not make you stand out-a fabulous MCAT, or publications, or something else is what will help you get into places like Harvard.

I created a cure for baldness, but thats no cancer, so I'm not going to bother to apply

It is absolutely possible. Harvard is looking to create a community of diverse and passionate people who want to shape medicine. This means all types of diversity - racial, ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, country of origin, interests, you name it. HMS could fill its classes many times over with people with perfect stats but it doesn't because there is more to a man than just a number. This is something that people on SDN often misunderstand. It's not just about the numbers.

you are absolutely right
it's about finding a cure for cancer if numbers don't support in the first place
