CSPM on probation?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
did you guys not recieve a letter from them in the mail explaining their status???? 😕
i was 😱 when i read it!
apparently the didn't submit a required progress report to the CPME on time...but they will try to submit one by March 1st and hopefully that should grant them their full accreditation back....

That's kind of crappy to hear. I thought CSPM would be more stringent with things overall after their large problems of the past (selling the facility and moving 2 times). It may not be a huge issue but still, I would not expect them to go on probation.

yeah dude..you would expect things to be more stringent. they told us before finals last semester.. i dont know whether to be mad or what..but they assured us it's no big deal it's all timing..or at least it seemed like it. They're gonna resubmit a progress report in march like meats said. But the only people who will possibly be affected by this probation is the class of 2011 (my class, unfortunately) if it is not yet lifted by then...in the meantime, the school remains accredited as I am typing this.

I am going to go out on a limb and predict that the school is not around anymore in 4-5 years. That poor school has been in trouble for a long time. The new school opening soon in Pomona is affiliated with a DO school and should be a good addition though so I don't think CSPM closing would be such a bad thing.

Plus you have awesome leadership from the start at the new school in Pomona...Lawrence Harkless.

I'm more or less disappointed with this probation at CSPM, even though it may not be a major issue at hand. After having such big problems in the past, you think the school would be completely on top of things to not allow any slip-ups/mistakes. I wonder what the excuse was for not submitting the progress report on time. Maybe accepting 16's on the MCAT would not go so well for the CPME...

I don't buy it. There has to be more to the story than that. You don't "forget" to submit paperwork when your accredition is on the line and if they just didn't submit it, there must have been a reason. This is the second time the school has been on probation in the last 5-6 years.

=The first of a few I hop..

I could only hop.

I'll keep on hopping!

Let's go do the hop!

I could only hop that it happens close to me?

There may be hop for the scholastics of the profession.

Sorry to those who hop otherwise. It's sad to hear 4 your sake.

Yeah, i totally agree...that's what i was thinking too...but have to say that their letter was pretty honest and seemed sincere...but yeah, i too wonder what the reason is....
still a bummer though! I feel bad for the students in the program...

Phew! I was this close :horns: to going to there too. The things we do for women. 😱

Well, a letter informing applicants is also mandated for any program on probation or provisional accreditation. It's not like they are informing people by choice.

You will run into this with residency programs also. By rule, they are supposed to notify applicants if they are on CPME probation (questionable surgical numbers, etc). Some will let you know, but some don't.

You always want to make sure to ask these questions:
-"When is your accreditation good until?"
-"Is the program currently on any sort of probation?"
-"How when is Dr. X under contract until?" (if the school/residency has a doc you are especially interested in learning with)
You are making a 4+ year committment for a school or a 2+ year one for residency, so you have to do your homework.

I agree that this is a definite possibility^

I wouldn't be too concerned; Al Burns has been around a long time, and as a current fourth year at CSPM, the level of education is improving all the time--the same as what I hear of the other schools from what I heard from the fellow fourth-years I had the pleasure of externing with.

And as for accepting low MCAT scores--come on, let's be fair...all the schools do this. And if you're going to talk down about my school...it's cool. All I know is that we've got peeps going to seattle, Atlanta, the kaisers in cali: bottom line is that we're alright. We have great students and some others.

and my understanding of the probation is in line with what ilizarob said.

Good luck!

Everyone that I have talked to who has gone for an interview or visited CSPM have said good things about the school. Except for they wish it wasn't in oakland.

I thought it was pretty good when I interviewed there. The location of the school itself is not bad at all (not like how most of the people on the interview feedback make it seem ie downtown ghetto). I really loved san fran though and would like to live there if I went to CSPM...however the commute is really crappy from what I understand. For first year, you are pretty much always studying at the school so I don't see how feasible it would be. One idea I thought would be to take the BART over as there is a stop not too far from the school in oakland.

The school facilities were decent. Not like DMU/Scholl/AZPOD but still ok. They wouldn't even show me the gym though...I heard its like 2 treadmills lol.

Has anyone noticed that they are advertising the Dean position on PM News? Did they can the Dean after these recent problems?

I nominate Dr. FG to take over as Dean. One can simply cowbell his way into Dean of CSPM

I'm pretty sure thats why the dean stepped down....he was lacking in the cowbell department...

I nominate either Dr. Feelgood or Christopher Walken as Bruce Dickenson... 👍

Well I would have also nominated Whiskers but then again I don't want the school to drown in poetic sorrow. Ah the irony!
