I REALLY, REALLY want to get into either Colorado State University or the University of Washington. I'm from Oregon, but went to school in Colorado - meaning that I am out of state for both places. Does anyone have advice on applying to either of these schools? Is it worth it to move to one of the states and establish residency before applying? I know that Washington has a very strict policy of mainly accepting residents.

Any help would be great!

I did my undergrad at the UW and the policy about Washington mainly accepting residents is not true. It is an even combination of international, out-of-state and resident students. The UW MOT program is highly competitive and they look at GRE scores, GPA and the # of observation hours you have. They accept 15-20 students each year into the program. I would move out to Washington so you can pay in-state tuition. It is so worth it and the school is right near downtown Seattle. It has so much to offer and you will easily find a job until you are ready to start school.

Actually I'm gonna have to disagree with you. I considered applying there and I was explicitly told that they do not take international students. Below is the email:
"Sorry but we don't offer admission to International students. One of our requirements is permanent residency or US citizenship.

OTdream is correct; UW's MOT program doesn't accept international students. Additionally, at UW's Open House last fall, Mary specifically told us that an applicant's state of residence has no impact on whether they will be admitted. They want to admit the 25 (approx) people who they consider to be the best applicants, period. The reason way more in-state people end up in UW's program is because people already living here are more likely to accept UW's offer than say, an applicant from Florida. 🙂 Good luck!
