Does anyone know exactly what will be posted under the Admission Status History? Also, if anyone has any more information on how CSU's phases work, I would really appreciate it. It is a little confusing, even after reading their online information.
I applied last year, and was waitlisted..
🙁 However, I do know a few things about the admissions portal. Last year, deny/offer/waitlist statuses for in-state students was posted on December 28th (I believe- I remember it being a few days after Christmas but before New Year's). Until that time, nothing about your "current" admissions status and your "admissions status history" will be different. If you made it past Phase II (where they review applications submitted by those with a GPA less than 3.2) the text will simply be "your application is pending in the regular admissions pool at this time" (or something like that). Once they send out offers at the end of December, that's when your admissions status will change, both in the history and the current status. The history will indicate that you were pending in the regular pool, then it will give the date of offer/deny/waitlist, and say that your status changed. (If you are waitlisted, it becomes almost impossible to not obsessively check the portal every 5 minutes to see if you were given a space, at least until April 15th when the acceptance deadline is.)
From what I know of the phases:
Phase I: Applications are sorted into "complete" and "incomplete". Applications that are missing information (ex: GRE scores, Letters of Rec, self-reported grades, residency, etc) or fees (ie. CSA or VMCAS fees were not paid/submitted) are taken out of the admissions pool.
Phase IIa: Applications are sorted into "Those with cumulative GPA Lower than 3.2" and "Everyone else". The applications with a GPA lower than 3.2 are reviewed and either continue on into the regular application pool or are notified of deny. (If you have a GPA of 3.2 and DO NOT have a deny status at this time, relax, you made it
🙂
Phase IIb: Applications for combined programs (ex: MPH/DVM, PhD/DVM) are reviewed completely. These applicants will find out closer to November 1 (according to the announcements) if they have been offered/deny/waitlisted.
Phase III: Everyone who made it (with the exception of combined program applicants) is reviewed during the end of November through the end of December. From what I gathered with talking to people, the applications are split in half, and an initial reviewer looks over ALL of one half while another looks at the other half, and shaves down the list (I don't know what criteria they use). The applicants who make it from this point on are reviewed by at least 2 other people, with the final numbers being about 100 in-state apps left and ? out-of state. The applications are ranked, with the first 75/76 in the in-state ranking being offered a position, and the remaining 24/25 making the waitlist. For WICHE and non-sponsered apps, the number of students admitted varies by year, so it's impossible to guess how this year will go. The decisions should be posted on the portal in the end of December (Unless you are WICHE, in which case you will find out in January).
Sorry the response is so long...
