cube couting problem

So I was going through crack the dat pat and I got this one problem wrong because of a hidden cube....when you look at the picture, if there was a cube on top then i know to assume theres a cube under it, but with this problem theres no cube on top and you cant tell whether the portion (which i marked in red in the 2nd picture) is a cube or just the side of the cube behind it....how do we conquer problems like this?

You know there's a cube there as otherwise the portion to the right and front of what you highlighted red isn't attached to the rest of the cubes as they would only be touching by the corners

Does that make any sense? Sorry if it doesn't, I can try and explain it another way

Cubes cannot be connected by only points. They need to be connected by sides so there will be a cube there.

As a heads up to you and anyone looking at this thread, I believe that Topscore and possibly achiever violate this rule specified by weakfart blatantly. You can assume the rule holds true for the real DAT
