Hello,

So when schools say cutoff point at 2.8 or 2.5 is that for your science gpa or overall gpa?

Does it matter if your science gpa is much greater than your overall gpa or vice versa?

Hmm...I guess it's technically overall...but they usually hope that your pre-req gpa is higher than your overall gpa. Even though it's not always the case. 😛 You should probably call the schools you're most interested in and ask how they treat gpa. Sometimes they weigh it very heavily and some weigh the OAT more heavily. I was told by one school that there is a cutoff, but it's not a hard and fast rule. If you are exemplary in every other aspect, they may be okay with a little bit of a lower gpa. Don't hold me to that though, talk to the schools. 😛

When I shadowed my optometrist he told me he did not have a great science GPA but a good overall if that helps.

your GPA is amazing. It's so nice to have such an intelectual person that knows so much about the field of optometry providing so much input to the boards. 👎
