I was accepted in the Forensic Clinical Psychology program at CUNY early in March and have not been able to find much information about the university, its various psychology programs, or my specific program. :help:

Therefore, I have created this thread so that us CUNY people may be able to discuss CUNY related topics such as documents we need to send in for registration, funding, research interests, our POI's, acceptances, etc.

Sooooo anyone planning to attend the forensic clinical program????? :hello:

Hey there!

I will not be in the forensic program BUT I am 90% sure I'll be attending the Developmental Psych program at the Graduate Center in the Fall. I appreciate this thread and hope other CUNY students will post!

Again, not in the clinical program, but my research interests center on African American and urban youth development and achievement. I believe I may be working with Dr.Collete Daiute who used to teach at Harvard and is becoming the program director for the Developmental program in the fall (well, she interviewed me even though I mentioned a completely different prof in my statement, but I am in awe of her work just the same). Eventually I want to become a professor, continue research and go into program evalution, development and consulting (and educational consulting in general). Basically, I want to become the head of the U.S. Dept. of Education in the somewhat distant future... (jk...dream big though, right?)

I just got a run down of my funding and basically my first year tuition will be covered...as for the next years, I will try to secure assistantships and more scholarships. I was granted a Graduate Assistantship B, in-state tuition coverage for a semester and additional extraneous funds. When I switch to in-state tuition, it should be quite do-able even with scholarships. I have little debt coming out of undergrad.

My next worry is about where to live, cost of living...etc. Are most CUNY students already city dwellers? I am a native NYer whose family moved to NC a year and a half ago, so I was not eligible for in-state tuition 🙁 (Great time for my family to move!). But that will change going into 2nd year.

Yes! The program is housed in John Jay. Maybe I met you during interviews... lol. As of now I have received my funding letter and but I have no idea who I will be working with.

Do you know when I know that kind of information? (Who I will be working with, classes etc.)

THANKS!

Congratulations on your offer for the Dev program! I'm interested in development as well but more in the terms of crime, agression, etc. Hence the Forensic program.. 😛

I am currently a NJ resident and as far as I know I get full tuiton remission so it doesn't matter that I am an out of stater. Another girl I met on interview day will be moving in from Nevada and I don't think being out of state affects anything which I did find a bit odd but I am grateful for though. I could be mistaken.

What do you say Psycho??

It is expensive to live in the city. I was looking at some apartments in Queens. These look more affordable.

Good Luck!! :luck:

Yea I actually an graduating with my ma in forensics. However I am active in the department regaring research I also know dr students and my lab partner is doing the phd starting fall. I live in nj but commute. I wouldn't recommend this for the phd program. The doctoral students basically live at the school. Since you are fully funded it shouldn't matter but because you'll be there so much I suggest living close queens/Brooklyn
Which professor do you want to work with?

How much do students and profs from all the subprograms interact? Are there current CUNY students out there who can answer this. There is a large number of subprograms for one school/center, so I'm curious if they hold mini conferences or what they do? Or does everyone stick to their cohort? lol.
