Hey guys,

I was jw what people are planning on doing for the year off while applying. I guess I'm looking for ideas... as all I have planned really right now is traveling in the summer amidst the application process... lol and then to look for a job after I settle down.

yea... I guess I'm unsure if this would necessarily count against me? is it recommended that we should at least maintain some sort of clinical experience even throughout the application cycle? Or would it be cool to simply tutor and do things not necessarily related to medicine?
thoughts?

This summer I'm doing an internship at NASA while taking 2 classes so my days are full. I probably won't do anything once the school year starts because I'll be taking 17 hours in the Fall with one of the classes bein my senior design which will result in a poster/presentation.

If I don't have any pre-matches (Texas schools) by the Spring semester I will probably try to do something in the case I have to reapply. Most likely shadowing.

To Do:

1) Finish my first author paper (due July 31st)
2) Find a new job because my PI is moving to a different university (due end of August)
3) Volunteering in an ER (starts June 25th)
4) Going to hike the Camel's Hump (in Vermont)
5) Finish building the room off my garage
6) Re-seal the roof of my house
7) Seal the wooden bridge in my backyard
8) Finish learning how to cook Indian food
9) Prepare for winter by filling my basement full of wood
10) Read 5-10 books
11) ???
12) Profit

I've not thought past Summer, yet.

Edit:

13) Hope I get accepted from either UVM's or UK's waitlist before I spend more money on secondaries for applying again.

Mhmm sounds fun.

They say you can see Russia from the top.

, take some pictures from the top and post em' up!

I hope to take advantage (probably for the last time, unless I get lucky this app cycle) of California's summer weather. Definitely taking full advantage of the beach and outdoor activities! How is Vermont in the summer and during the other seasons?

Vermont was one of the schools I applied to.

Vermont has great summer weather. However, air conditioning is not standard here. There are hot (85-94) days, but for the most part it is generally decent (74-82). The killer is humidity. Ever experienced 73 degrees outside with 60-80% humidity? High humidity is the norm for the summer.

As for the seasons:

Spring is very short here. Mainly because everything is covered in mud (Mud Season).

Summer is normal length and great (perfect, I think).

Fall is beautiful but the days get shorter.

Winter is interesting, you either love it or hate it. Winter is extremely long and harsh (tons of snow/ice). The days get to be very short.

Interesting, I often visit my family who live in the south and the immediate humidity experienced walking out from the airport is dredging - makes me feel like I need to shower immediately.

California has spoiled me too much and also has stolen the seasons away from me, some friends who are from other parts of the country miss that feeling... you know... when its winter and there is actually snow so it looks like winter (something I've never experienced).

Buy yes, thanks for the quick glimpse, I am definitely excited to potentially experience other parts of the country.
