Ok - gardisil is certainly in the news....but...for an interview..what is the broader issue - what does a pharmacist have to offer? Gardisil, in and of itself, is not a pharmacy issue anymore than lisinopril is - its here, available, accessible & utilized. But....it is a reflection of the broader issue of what pharmacists can do as the easist & most accessible person (not information - that is the internet - for good or bad) about drug information.
Try to think broadly in terms of these isolated events - gardisil, zostavax, Twinrix = immunization programs, education of the public of the importance of immunizations.....then leads you to disease prevention - more education of the public....why do we have an upswing of pertussis? Is Adacel really indicated for an adult booster?
Or...you could take the gardisil tangent of promiscuity & go again toward an ill-served group of people who have access to a pharmacists - those who have or are thinking of sexual activity - whether young or not, re-entering the dating pool or not.....lots of questions come up which a pharmacist might need to be prepared to answer. What does gardisil protect against???? Why should this be important to men? Is there a vaccine for men??? What about Plan B? What about other public health issues the sexually active might have - viagra, cialis, levitra????
For an interview....you don't want to rattle off all the headlnes from your local paper...you want to think about what you might be able to do about that issue if you were given the opportunity to intervene as a pharmacist.
