Hi,

So I've had my apps & secondaries submitted to and verified by 9 schools, and I've already received an interview invite to MWU-AZ for September. However, I'm starting to think I should apply to more schools given my stats. I would have to take out a short-term student loan to do this, however, I think it may be a smart decision and would like to hear your opinions.

Residency: TX
cGPA: 3.32
sGPA: 3.26
BCPGPA: 3.30
GradGPA: 3.85 (33 credit hours)

DAT: 20AA 19TS 22 PAT 20Bio 20GC 18OC 22QR 19RC
Very large upward trend in GPA. I had a 1.85 GPA my first semester of college simply due to maturity reasons/poor study habits. Undergrad major: Biomedical Sciences. Master's degree(nearly complete): Biomedical Sciences. 23 years old & non-URM. Good essays/rec letters. Large amount of shadowing and volunteer work, however, my volunteer work is almost all non-healthcare related. I have a couple hours of dentistry-specific volunteering, but the rest is not related to health-care. I hope this doesn't affect me too much. I have a decent research background including a co-authored entomology publication. I also worked a part-time job throughout my senior year and Master's program.

Schools applied to:
All three Texas schools (in-state)
UNLV
LECOM
MWU-AZ (received interview invite)
ASDOH
Creighton
UNE

Considering adding a few from this list (open to other suggestions):
Nova
Touro
Case Western
Roseman
Marquette
Western

Also, it's worth noting that my DAT scores are from March 2016. So I'm unable to apply to certain schools with them (Louisville & Temple to name a couple). Thanks a ton!!!

I definitely would apply to more if you have the money. You don't want any regrets later on. I felt safer applying to 13 schools instead of my original 9, so I just did it. I only regret applying to 2 schools out of the 13 and that was because of my lack of research. From your maybe list, I think you have a chance for interviewing for them, I would pick a couple that you are interested in going to!

I'm leaning towards adding three more schools (VCU, Case Western, and Western). Do you all think that these three additions along with the applications that I've already submitted would leave me in a strong enough position for this cycle? Thanks again.

I think you might as well try. VCU's average DAT is almost 22 and around a 3.55 sci gpa. But that doesn't mean you can't get an interview. If this cycle doesn't work out the way you hope, I would retake that DAT. You did really well on your masters and your DAT isn't the best reflection because I'm sure you can do better now that its 2 years later.

If you have any questions about interviews for VCU, UNLV, MWU-AZ, just message me!

Thanks so much for your help! I don't know where you got that DAT average for VCU from though. The ADEA guidebook and other resources say it's closer to 20.

Oops, I meant to put 21 because I remember at my interview it was around 20.5 on their ppt. In my notes I had put ~21. But I know doc toothaches guide says 20.1 so idk.

Case and Marquette are excellent choices. I'm not up to date on every school's DAT policy, but if your score is not too old and you meet all other requirements, then Buffalo, Maryland, UDM.

You could apply to OHSU or MWU-IL

Thanks for the recommendations. I decided to add VCU, CWU, and WesternU yesterday. I paid for and completed all of their supplemental apps yesterday as well. Hopefully these three extra schools put me in a safer position to get an acceptance this cycle.
