Current Student Advice wanted!!!

I have always been interested in podiatric medicine because of the ability to do surgery, primary care, and wound healing. After spending many hours shadowing a podiatrist, I knew this was the field for me; however, after reading about the schools, I am a little worried about pursuing the profession. I really want to attend Barry University because it is near my house and I love the area, but I keep hearing negative reviews. Nobody has clearly stated what the quizzes/tests consist of, but instead just say how terrible it is. I have a 4.0 and a 30 MCAT, but after hearing how so many students fail/ don't do well, it makes me scared to enter into the field. Any student's comments/ personal experiences on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I don't put much faith in the flack Barry gets on here since I think its fake/trolling, but their graduation rate leaves a lot of bodies in debt on the side of the road. They've got a small class size and yet they have an attrition rate that is in line with much larger schools.

If you really have a 4.0 and a 30 MCAT, you'll be fine at any of the schools, Barry U included.

the current residency shortage also has me a bit scared. How do you think it will be by the time i graduate? (2019)

I would not worry about the residency shortage. There are many spots being added, with both new and existing programs.

Yeah the residency match has been getting better. As for grades, there is no on that I know of that is failing that is putting a full faith effort foreward. of course some will do better then others, but the ones that fail are usually one that just cram the weekend before an exam. Getting a 4.0 and a 30 to me seems you are putting in enough effort and are smart enough to handle the curriculum at any DPM program.

I would say though 75% graduation rate seems sort of low. My class at Temple we started with 100 and are down to 91, my guess is we will graduate 86 or 87. Are any of the other schools at 75% graduation rate or lower.

with a 4.0 gpa and 30 mcat, you are already cream of the crop for pods. if you continue to do what you're doing, work hard, and don't be an arrogant buffoon, then you shouldn't have a problem with getting a residency program

After spending the last couple years rotating with students from every school, I can confidently say it doesn't matter where you go. I have met awesome people from every school, and I have met some real tools from every school. I have a feeling the school didn't make the person who they are.
