Not sure where to put this and need some advice. I was asked by a swine researcher to send my CV. I have an old CV, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't care about my previous work before vet school. What type of information do you put in a CV for vet school/ research? Obviously my leadership positions, but any other thoughts? I'd really appreciate anyone's suggestions. Thanks. 🙂

I have my education, awards and accolades.

I have an academic employment section that lists in details what I was responsible for. In my non-academic employment section I just listed my previous jobs with no descriptions.

I have a section devoted to my educational work: working at a kid's science camp and volunteering at Science Rendezvous is listed there.

I have a volunteer section that my vet experience falls under.

I have the conferences I have attended and the presentations I have made.

I have my skill sets listed: Proficient in DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction and gel electrophoresis, Familiar with fresh water snail identification, etc.

And my academic references.

Trust me. It is much easier to show you haha. It's a whopping 8 pages.

If you want to PM me too I can send you mine. I had to have an under two page one for something recently, but mines at that awkward it barely goes onto page 2 length so you either cram it all on one page or elaborate to make the second page seem necessary.

I would include leadership experiences, awards (academic or otherwise) and any vet related/research experiences.

My mom has spent time as a recruiter for the government and her biggest pet peeves as someone reading resumes/cover letters are the words "amazing", "passion(ate)" and "amazing opportunity"...just don't 😉

I am sending a CV for an externship opportunity and I start school in the fall so I don't have much to put on it. I really want to stand out because the director said they don't normally take students this early on (I would be doing the externship either this winter or next summer) but that they do consider 1st and 2nd year students when there is room. I don't have any awards and wasn't involved in clubs in my undergrad. I have also just been working for the last 5 years. I included my education and veterinary work experience but I'm not sure what else to put that would be relevant (this is at a zoo btw). Should I put that I am euthanasia and laser therapy certified? That's pretty much all I've got and it's less than one page with lengthy descriptions of my duties as a vet assistant. Help!

I included wet lab experience that is not a part of the standard curriculum, and any electives that support the position you are applying for.

Remember a C.V. Is am advertisement, use it to highlight ANYTHING you think that supports why you would be a good hire...even if you don't think it traditionally would be included, include it anyway. There are no rules. If you read a paper by the person you are meeting include it. Etc etc.

Putting in skills for job listings is a really nice addition. It gives them a better idea of what you did and what you can do. For example, I have them listed on my CV like this:

Place: Dates worked

Position: Blahblahblah

Duties and Skills: Example: Developed tailored techniques for analyzing various proteins via nuclear extraction from culture. Independently optimized western blotting protocols for each unique protein being analyzed for maximum results. Continued previous NIH supported work and contributed to current graduate projects. Also worked with PCR, plasmids, DNA extraction, and literature compilation in a study regarding molecular diagnosis of canine lymphoma.

Supervisors: Blahblahblah

I've never seen a C.V. over 3 pages. Wow. 2 is pretty much enough.

Mercilessly teased poor players. Continued playing after being a wolf or chaos in multiple games. Pioneer pre-vet forum contributor who played in the Lounge long before WW "migrated". Managed relationships across multiple forums. Have BF nicknamed WW.

Supervisors: No one can supervise me. I am a free spirit.

You also forgot me furiously killing myself on purpose in one game as a desperate ploy to 1) save the other villager up for lynch since it was him or me and 2)win it for the villagers by letting you know my seering list was indeed correct and I had not been converted. And the villager I saved turned out to be an unseerable wolf that I had checked into twice and saw him as clear 🤣
