Hi,
Could some explain to me the endocrine/biochemistry science as to why Cushings syndrome causes the following:

Impotence/Decreased Libido
Amennorhea
Hirsutism
Depression/Emotional Instability
Truncal and Facial Fat

Ive looked in robbins, davidson, kumar and clark and wikipedia, and they all just tell me that these are symptoms of cushings but they dont explain why they occur, which is one of my LO's for PBL! 🙁

Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks 🙂

Amennorhea and Hirsutism : Because of excess secretion of steroids and the androgenic potency of some of the hormones.

Truncal and Facial Fat : Since virtually all cells have glucocorticoid receptors , excess cortisol have multisystemic effects including increased fatty acid mobilization.

Depression/Emotional Instability : Glucocorticocoids modulate perception and emotion in CNS ((which may cause changes in bahaviour)).

Impotence/Decreased Libido : I'm not sure ... ((some negative feedback stuff maybe ?? ))

I don't know if you are looking for that kind of answers or you maybe are looking for sort of molecular detailed stuff ... anyway i hope this helps .
