Drexel
Pros
  • Decent research opportunities
  • Good match list

Cons
  • Lottery system for clinical year
  • No home hospital

CUSM
Pros
  • Close to family in LA
  • Has its own hospital

Cons
  • New school with only LCME preliminary accreditation
  • No reputation

I cannot decide. Any help would be appreciated.

I would try to get into contact with current students from the schools or alums in the case of Drexel. Call the admissions office or reach out to your network. That will help you the most with your decision. I actually interviewed at CUSM (didn't get in), but ended up having to choose between Drexel and Cooper. I choose Cooper and am happy I did because I love Philly, but I'm sure I would have liked Drexel as well. I feel like CUSM is probably working out kinks because they're so new, but who knows. It might be nice to have family nearby with CUSM, but it's also nice to explore other parts of the US and learn and grow as a person. In the end, I think CUSM is more of a gamble because it's so new and I would choose Drexel because it's older and has a reputation, but I don't think you can go wrong with either choice I think.

I'd choose Drexel. I think your cons for CUSM are more significant than those of Drexel, and Drexel's pros outweigh those of CUSM. Getting out on your own on the east coast will be an adventure and something that will help you grow as noted in the post above.

For some, staying close to family/support system makes them happy. it gives them a sense of security and the strength to overcome challenges, and there will be many through out this med school journey. Go where you will be happy because one tends do well if one is happy. Matching is on you and not the school, at least not with these two schools. As long as CUSM is not toxic, which I don't think they are, you will be fine. GL.
