Hey guys,

I just finished sending out my primary and a secondary on Jan 3rd for a school with the deadline on Jan 6th (University of Washington). I was holding back because I was trying to secure a pharmacy tech job (wound up getting a job at CVS in late Dec). My GPA is yet to be verified and PharmCAS says they did not mail my application out. Is the admissions committee going to look down on my application because it was so close to the deadline? I feel that gaining employment was a necessary step I needed to take to demonstrate my commitment to pharmacy. I have gone to hell and back to get to where I am and I would hate for them to think that I am not committed to pharmacy because of a deadline.

Stats:
BS in Biology, Minor in Neuroscience
Cum GPA - 3.22

PCAT
Verbal - 78th
Biology - 99th
Reading Comprehension - 86th
Quantitative Ability - 96th
Chemistry - 98th
Composite - 98th

UW is my top choice, so I'm nervous that I botched my shot at getting in. This application process has been pretty grueling, but I would have to say that waiting is the worst part. Any and all feedback would be appreciated, especially anyone applying/enrolled at UW. Thanks!

As soon as you esubmit they can see your app. I got my interview the day after I submitted, and about 2 weeks before my GPA was verified.

Waiting so late definitely lowers your odds. You have a good PCAT score, but probably a below average GPA for a top tier school. Hopefully it wasn't the hard sciences that brought it down. If you got Bs and Cs in chemistry or biochem I would be pretty nervous.

Yeah, I was a bit worried about my GPA too; my first semester I got a 1.9. I didn't find my classes very interesting, and I wasn't very motivated at the time. Once I figured out I wanted to go on to pharm school, I got my act together and kept my GPA above a 3.6 for the last two years of school. I also volunteered 102 hours at an inpatient pharmacy in a hospital, worked 7 months in a long-term care pharmacy, and a did a year of undergrad research. Even with all of that, sometimes I get the feeling that it's somewhat of a long shot. I just need someone at UW to give me a chance to show them I have what it takes.

Thanks for the comment, I appreciate your honesty.

If that's the case, a lot of people including myself get off to a rocky start. I think if you don't get in and apply again in August you will be fine. Think about early decision as well. They like to know you have one true choice. Don't give up on this year though there is still a chance.
