CV and Personal Statement

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm trying to put together my CV and personal statement and I was wondering if anyone had examples that I could use or some advice on how to write these up. I'm lost in the woods with this stuff and could use some help.

Thanks

CV should just be titles, dates and description. You don't need to make it too pretty since you will end up just entering it into ERAS. You just a fairly nice version for letter writers.

Personal statement is a lot like what you wrote for med school except "Why x specialty?" I would start early and edit it every week or so - that should end in a pretty nice essay once you flesh it out over time. I find it hard to come up with everything in one sitting.

if you do a google search you can find a few tips for residency PSs. Different specialties are going to want this to have slightly different focuses. The big thing is that it shouldn't just be a rehash of your CV in prose form. You are selling yourself as to why X specialty, as alwaysaangel notes.

It helped to make a list of
things I am REALLY passionate about. Hobbies, sports, service etc.
And find a way to tie those in to why you chose your specialty of choice.
I feel like being authentic can go a long ways. PDs want to get to know
you better. Writing about what your passionate about helps avoid sounding
generic.

I know it's stressful but you'll be done soon enough!
Good luck!

Google search. The AMA has some good info and many schools have plenty of sample PS as well as important PS criteria.
