CVS Average Hourly Rate in NEW JERSEY

I work as a staff rph down in Norfolk, VA and was planning on transferring to NJ. In the area that I work in, there is still a demand for pharmacists. I currently work at CVS and the average hour rate down here is around $55/ hour.

I was wondering what the hourly rate was in Jersey and if it is still saturated or not.

Unfortunately I do not know the answer to your question about NJ salary but I am replying because I wanted to bring up a point that may or may not be important to the folks reading this message board.

I worked in Virginia Beach as a retail pharmacist from 1995-2003. My salary was $55/hour at WALMART in 2003.

Putting that into perspective the salary has not changed in this area for 10 years.
I find that amazing. Appears the market has leveled off and for quite some time.

Its is a good salary regardless but appears that it has stabilized possibly due to new grads jumping on this money and older folks jumping out for sanity. Just my thoughts.

NJ is one of the most saturated places in the country. lots of new grads cant find jobs. but if you are already with CVS, maybe you can transfer. in term of starting salary for CVS, NJ has one of the lowest in the country, but highest cost of living. friend is starting 42 hours/week for $100,500 for CVS. 14 hr shift no lunch break.

another friend got a gig at a huge hospital, UMDNJ..$38 an hr.

I believe that once you're with CVS and if there is a position available where you want to go, they will keep your hourly rate the same. I heard they would increase your rate to match the market, but they won't reduce it. I don't know if it is still true though. They gave me an instant $3.5 increase to match when I transferred.
 
Is it hourly or salary there? When I started work, they told me that California is the only state that is hourly. I figure that is due to CA labor law which I appreciate greatly. When I have to work a 13 hour day, by law, I have to take two 30 minute lunch breaks in which I leave the pharmacy. I also get paid OT for the last 4 hours and double time if I work more than 12. If we ever switch to 14 hour days, I'll get paid double time for the last hour. I also get OT for anything over 40 hours per week. It really adds up.

If you have to work for CVS, California is the place you want to be.

whatever the salary is per hour, subtract it by 10 for the anxiety that you will have for living in jersey lol

Don't worry, the companies are aware of that, don't forget we have a state income tax that tops out at 10%. Once the 3 new schools graduate their new students, we'll be begging for those crappy below $50 a hour jobs. So far I have personally verified a $49 a hour job at hospitals like west anaheim owned by tenant, old people get the old rate but how long do they have until they train up the cheaper labor and start to consolidate.

Who works over an 8 hour shift in CA? I'll take it. 5 days a week are for the birds

I just got hired as an intern for CVS in CA. I was surprised to see they require pharmacy to take 30 min lunch for working >5 hrs, since I keep reading on this forum that retail pharmacists dont have bathroom breaks or lunch breaks.

HOWEVER I am having DEEP issues with having my bags checked when I leave the store. wtf??????? how do CVS pharmacists deal with this? srsly I was so angry 😡 it makes me sad that the hundreds of pharmacists CVS employs comply with this...how is our profession gonna get anywhere when we agree to being treated like criminals. I would love to see one doctor agree to have his briefcase checked when leaving his site of employment.

I think because CVS got sued. California law requires CVS to pay overtime when an employee works more than 5 hours straight.

During the short duration of time that I have been a pharmacist, I have seen more than my fair share of pharmacists caught stealing. One pharmacist got away with over 100k of Oxycontins. It happens more than you think.

I always hear stories but have no idea how prevalent it is.
