So we got a corporate e-mail over the week stating our policy toward Rite Aid's new 15 minutes or less wait time or a gift card policy. They clearly state that it is a gimmick and that while CVS pharmacists should fill scripts that can be waiters, they will not honor a match because they believe that it decreases the quality of the check and might endanger safety. Then they stress that pharmacists should check based on their comfort level and never compromise the safety of the patient.

Also, there was an extra note stating that we do not give out giftcards for readyfill too. CVS policy is that it gives incentives for patients to use medications they might not need thus increasing the burden of healthcare spending. I am not sure which competitor does this but maybe a small local chain???

Either way, one of the few company memos that I saw of late that is a 👍

A ray of light in the dark.

Considering what I have heard recently from some local Rite-Aid pharmacists, that company is in serious trouble. Even CVS recognizes that there is no need to imitate a sinking ship. 😀

I agree read the memo a couple of days ago- we don't have any Rite Aids in our area but yes Rite Aid is minutes away from the morgue.

Yeah, I saw that e-mail as well today. (My APPE is at a CVS.) But yeah, speaking of CVS, I called my old store today because I forgot my intern permit there when I deserted about 10 months ago before leaving for Costco. The PIC and the lead tech were both fired about 2-3 weeks after I left. I kinda feel bad now because the store got screwed because I didn't stay throughout the whole 2 weeks notice.

Heh I was thinking about posting this as well, but anyway the chain giving gift cards for autofill is Target (aka the "saint" of pharmacy retail).

And what were they fired for?

You don't have to offer gift cards to compromise safety. You just have to put huge emphasis on metrics.

According to one of the techs who is still there, the SSS score tanked.

I'm not sure if the thread is still here, but basically I got a job offer from Costco right after one full-time tech quit. That brought the staff at the pharmacy down to the PIC, 1 lead tech (full time), 1 PSA (part time), and 2 interns (me who works about 16 hours a week and the other one working 12 hours a week) and a floater pharmacist.

So when I got my offer from Costco, I told the PIC either they match Costco's offer or my 2 weeks notice goes into effect immediately. She said no. During the 2 week notice, I got into a car accident on my way to school to take a final. My cousin took me to school, but on the way back home his car broke down. Called the PIC to let them know I'm not gonna be able to come in, she starts yelling and saying that I better find a way to get there in 2 hours leading to me saying no I'm done, and I started at Costco the next day.

**Prays** that Rite Aid is smart enough to sell off their pharmacies one by one as a franchise rather than just tank (since no chain giant in their right mind would buy those dingy, filthy stores). LOL

THIS is where CVS draws the line?

Thankfully NY won't let you give gift cards anyway. It's those rare little extra laws that make all those other PITA extra laws seem worth it.

No kidding!

CVS decides not to match a horrible and desperate business decision by a pharmacy ready to go out of business. Wow! You are right CVS is awesome!!!! CVS is really worried about the "quality" of the final check. As long as that final check does not get in the way of answering the phone, or geting the the drive through in 20 seconds or your triple BS score or PCI or XZY whatever BS thing they have going. CVS does something right....whatever.

I agree Mountain. They must have decided it would be too costly. They aren't worried about allowing the pharmacists time to check prescriptions. They only care about the bottom line. Don't fool yourself OP..... this was a calculated statement which is NOT backed up by the way they practice!

Yup. They prob did a cost/profit assessment on giving out gift cards and realized that it would be a loss. Then came out with that statement to show the "support" they have for their pharmacists.

Definately a BS statemnt from CVS.....Thats why they have the wait time report that prints out weekly with how many waiters you have....
