Hello,

I am a cvs intern at the moment. The problem I am having is that I am from overseas and my English speaking is not as fluent as other employees. I have no problem with face to face communication. Yet, when it comes to phone calls, I am very nervous.

Sometimes I have to ask several times about patients' last names etc.

Now that I have to deal with drop off part of CVS, How should I prepare for this?

Calling insurance companies and doctors is gonna be so hard for me...

Any suggestions? Help me!

I always ask people to spell if I'm having a hard time (I think I'm hard of hearing sometimes or something -.-). Then I always repeat it back if I'm unsure. They say David Smith and I say "S as in Sam, M as in Mary, I as in igloo, T as in tree, and H as in Harry, right?"
You can always spell for people if they are having a hard time understanding you too. Practice is the best though. Just remember to try to enunciate and don't get frustrated at repeating or asking others to repeat. Normally as long as your pleasant most people are nice.

It doesn't matter if your English is perfect; just do your best and try to clarify when you can. Many of your patients may also not have perfect English. This can be challenging for anyone working in that position, regardless of their own English skills.

You'll get better with practice so just try to be confident!

just begin by asking for the date of birth from there you can pull up a list of patients who commonly fill there and should be able to recognize the name from the list.

The experience will help you improve and relax.

Half the time, I can't understand people when they say their names either. On the Cvs computer, just type a comma and their date of birth.
For example, if I'm born on February 3rd, 1990, type this: ,02031990
