Can anyone tell me what is it like to work as an overlap floater? I.e. what are the expectations, besides QA and whatever else necessary? Likes? dislikes? I know it's a plus to have another RPh there, but how are tasks usually divided between the two? Thanks!

Right now, we only get RPH overlap on Mondays. Usually, one person verifies, while the other person (usually the PIC) helps out the techs, or covers one of their lunches, or does other pharmacist duties like checking in controls. Occasionally, if we are behind in QV, both of us verify.

Bro- if the only thing your PIC does during overlap coverage is tech tasks in workflow, that says a lot about how they manage techs

You do whatever needs to be done. It can be different depending on the location and situation. Down a tech? You're doing QP. QP caught up with 8 pages of QV? You're doing QV. QP/QV caught up? You're doing calls. High volume store? You're making calls while checking while trying not to have an anxiety attack while contemplating just downing a 1000 ct bottle of phenobarbital and ending it all.

Ehhhh I don’t know about that. Some of the best pharmacists I have worked with have been the “roll up the sleeves and jump in” type.

Oh yeah, no, that's not what I meant.

I meant, "only thing"

When I floated busy stores, I'd help kill piles before the gates opened

I'm going for the Xanax and washing it down with Oxycodone

Well, she also does other managerial duties when need be, but usually, other stuff takes precedent. It’s all about triage, and using every slice of available time effectively.

I think the only locations you still see RPh overlap is in states with strict RPh to Tech ratios.
