So I applied to dozens and dozens of staff pharmacist, floater, and manager positions at CVS. Only 5 minutes after I applied, I got a rejection notice; this happened for all positions. I already have a job right now, but would like to switch locations one day, so I wanted to see how the job market is. Am I doing something wrong or is the pharmacy job market is that horrible? I don't think the job market is at the lowest point just yet as I had no problem getting interview calls from Walgreens, Rite Aid, and several grocery stores. I only applied for staff positions, so I shouldn't have to worry about new grads just yet. Any advice or comments?

Did you apply to a state where you are licensed? If you apply to state with no license automatic denial. They don't want to wait on you to get license.

Also a lot of the job postings at cvs are fake. The district leader already has picked someone for the position but has to post the job opening to make it look like they are being fair and giving anyone a chance.

There are "behavioral" questions at the beginning of the application. I was told that if you have a "wrong" answer to one of those, the software is designed to send an immediate rejection.

Yep, I only applied to jobs where I'm licensed to practice. But I guess you're right that it's a fake job posting. Also for behavioral questions, I answered all questions and never had any issues on my license and no history of crime, etc. It didn't even give me a chance to do an assessment. Oh well, maybe it is a fake job.

Yep many job listings are fake. My sup made me reapply for my job once cause I wasn't entered in the system correctly or something. The posting stayed up for days and I'm sure many people wasted their time applying.

Hospitals do it too, at my per diem job they posted a full time position and filled it almost immediately. The job posting stayed up for about two months after they hired someone.

Apparently you didn't tell them you like your work to be "challenging"...

that is loaded question if I ever saw one

"There are no wrongs answers."

Edit: It's "challenging" enough that a nurse calls me to account for why a patient didn't pick up the other half of their Rx, and 'insurance will only fill half of it at a time' was not an acceptable answer and why didn't the pharmacy call to alert the Dr.'s office? After all, 'now there are complications' because the pt didn't come in to get the other half. They want a written response 🙄 .

So yeah, why would anyone in their right mind want a "challenging" time in retail vs having an adequately staffed pharmacy?

You are lucky to even have a job rn. Soon you will be laid off or forced to reapply for your job a reduced wage. Based on my calculations in 2020 the average pharmacist wage should be around 34 USD an hour based on supply and demand.

Please try to be responsible and pay off your loans before you get laid off.

push it out to 2035 so I can be retired - then adios amigos!

The market will get tighter but based on my calculations the wage will still go up to compensate with inflation unless you hit the cap for your region. And companies won’t drastically lower wages especially in competitive region to prevent high turnover.

our (at my hospital) wages are still going up - but only nominally - basically keeping up with inflation. We just raised our min and max's - we are in a relatively saturated area - we get tons of applicants - but quality we still struggle to get quality (or at least the quality we want)

I would've faxed over a single sheet of paper with the patient's name and the insurance company's help desk phone number

I think the quality people with a modicum of FU money have long ago left the field. They saw the pharmacy's trend to becoming a real life version of Hostel. Just recently I turned down an offer to come back. I rather live on rice and beans in a van down by the river than go back to the Freak Show.

If we could have normalized interest rates I could retire for real, but I have to pack fudge at the Whitman plant if I don't want to catabolize my nest egg. That should tell all you whippersnappers out there in pharmacy school what the reality is out there. I rather do sweaty warehouse work than pharmacy.

You have to answer these questions with only extreme answers. Like "extremely likely" or "extremely unlikely". I have a friend that works in HR and unless you do this you basically go into the black hole as stupid as that is. She doesnt work for CVS but this is what she told me. Google UNICRU answer key. Better off...apply for hospital staff positions. I would never have any desire to work for any retail crap company but to each there own.
