Hi everyone,

Having trouble choosing between CVS staff position and Walgreens floater as I have no experience with Walgreens and only experience with CVS in another state.

Walgreens floater:
-My homestore will be 35 mins away (boonies)-probably with zero/little traffic since I am in the Palm Springs area, but Hiring Manager says I will most likely have majority of my shifts in Palm Springs area after training in homestore
-32 hours/wk
-Low $60s/hour
-Varied population
-Haven't actually spoken or met the DM

CVS staff:
-Location is 10 mins away
-30 hrs full time/wk
-Higher $60s/hour
-DM seems nice and caring
-Population is wealthy, elderly population

**Any input would be appreciated, especially Walgreens pharmacists in CA? Thank you!

You will cherish that extra 50mins per day of free time.

CVS, but the DM isn't your friend. Then build some experience and network and add an easy credential (CGP?) After that apply to Kaiser outpatient get an improvement all around: pay hours working condition. Seen a lot of wags rphs do this after working retail for a couple years.

There is no traffic in palm springs area ever. Not in DHS, coachella, palm desert, palm springs. This isn't the boonies. It's pretty hot 120F but tons of mixed population in the desert from retired elderly, young ppl and gay people (prepare to sell tons of enemas during gay pride parade). Boonies area here is 29 palms, Yucca Valley (not even too far from PS).

Wag underpaid, and float position. Go with CVS less commute higher pay, all of the areas in Coachella Valley, PS, Indio is about the same. Some richer population (Rancho Mirage/Palm Desert), some poorer population. Fu3k wag low ass pay in 120F weather and floating.

Do not go to WAGs. I repeat do not go to WAGs. They are cutting hours and floaters are desperate for 30 hours week. They are cutting store hours and I predict will start laying off floaters and keeping only 2 Rph per store.

This is true, hours cuts everywhere, 24 hr stores going non-24, scheduler is begging for others to take pto almost every other week so floaters can reach 32 hrs

Charcoales, did your store go non 24? Did they offer you guaranteed hours to float?

consensus is WG is easier day to day but less secure (cut hours, more people want to work WG)
I am surprise to hear both are under $70 in palm springs though.
If overtime is your thing, look at a district map to see if one has more stores to cover.

Is this happening everywhere? or just around the saturated cities, like LA and OC?

It's happening here in central Florida region. I think they're making changes region to region. After southern regions get their hours cut, they will move North.

Where do you work may I ask?

San Diego

I'm familiar with the area since I used to work there for OTs. No more OTs nowadays. You are lucky if you get 40h staff position in SD. Most get hired as part time and float forever.

I can believe the job market is tough there. There was a position on Camp Pendleton for a pharmacist. I submitted a resume, never even got so much as a call back. I couldn't think of a better fit for me. I am an honorably discharged Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton for 4 years.
