CVS summer intership questions

Hey guys, I was recently offered a summer internship position at CVS. I was wondering about the training period. They say that I will have to go through training and then they will raise my pay by $1. What I want to know is if they will still allow me to perform pharmacist duties such as counseling and taking telephone Rx's. Or, if during the training period, you are only allowed to work in the capacity of a technician. If you know something about this please do tell.

The 'training period' is a bunch of computer work, maybe some paperwork you have to do. I was with CVS as an intern over 2 summers. Honestly, it's been a year since I've worked there and don't really remember clearly what exactly you had to do, but when you do finish the 'training', you get bumped up a year in your title (ex, from a yr3 to a yr4... they have a crazy yr system...). It took me about 2 wks-1 month to finish, as far as I remember. Then I got $12 instead of $11. lol. woot.
They didn't raise my wages properly and I had to contact the DM to get it fixed, but I was given the difference in my paychecks so wasn't cheated out of my extra $1/hr in the end...
You can still do whatever the pharmacist does (except the final check) even if you don't complete training. That should be okay as your title of "intern". But they'll let you know, maybe check your state law too...

Thanks for the help StringTheorist. I heard that you get a packet with CD's and papers to fill out. I would just worried that they were going to use the training period as an excuse to work me as a technician. It is because I am choosing between two offers and trying to get all the little questions answered before making a final decision. I really appreciate your comment.

omg, yes I remember now, the packet from hell! That took me 14 hrs to complete at home. That really sucked. Can't believe they're still doing that. Blech. Sorry...🙁

yes, if i can recall correctly they give you a large 3" binder with papers stuffed inside. The training is similar to what has already been said. The trainer comes in to check your status and she gives you drills etc and then calls them in to corporate as completed. There are also some training that is required for you to do at home online. I think they are still using cvslearnet, but im not sure. With respect to performing pharmacist duties, i guess it depends on where you go and how your pharmacist is, when I worked last summer the only duties I was allowed to do was fill scripts and get the staff lunch lol. Needless to say, that didnt last long. In any case, I hope you have a good time and learn a lot wherever you chose to work. By the way i would be interested in hearing where else you were offered a position.

Thanks. I have another offer for HEB. After talking with pharmacists from both stores I finally decided to take the internship with HEB. They told me that grocery chains have a different dynamic. The wage at HEB is much higher but I really was wanting to know which company would give me the best learning experience rather. Overall, HEB seemed like the place I would fit better at.
