Hi!
I was wondering if there was anyone who had interviewed for a tech position at CVS? I just got certified and I don't have any retail experience and I am kind of nervous. I really need this job!
Any advice?
Thanks 🙂

First of all, good luck on your interview. I can't say that I have a lot of retail experience, but I have conducted interviews for applicants for various positions. Here are my tips:

1. Be yourself with the interviewer. This person has been in the same position as you are at some point in his/her life. They don't want to see you falter. Really.
2. Honesty, honesty, honesty.
3. If they ask a question that you don't know the answer to, respond something like this: "That is a great question." Then you can figure out what to say from there. [I participate in a lot of conference calls with various clients. Sometimes I am asked a question that I don't have the answer to. Most recently, it was regarding coverage of a particular medication. I said, "That is a great question. While I don't have the answer right now, I'll check and get back with you after this call." And I did. People are fine with that. You are not expected to know everything all of the time.]

You can make up for lack of experience with a great personality. If you seem like someone that would be a good fit for their stores, most employers will not mind training you. After all, you'd likely have to learn a new software system anyway.

Some questions for you to ask them:
1. how many prescriptions do you fill in a typical day?
2. can you describe a typical day for a tech?
3. what got you interested in this career?

That's all I can think of now. Good luck!

I had a crazy interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the Pharmacists interviewed me with the regular:
-Why do you want this job?
-Why should you have this job?
yada-yada........😕
then he stars talking really arrogant with other questions, but not giving me time to answer before he would cut me off to ask another question.....
well, he said he was testing me to see how I reacted to an irritating situation (there will be many in retail pharmacy!!!!!)
well, I did great till he quized me on a script. I had been licensed for about 3 months and my mind wasn't fresh. He gave me a really tough one( tougher than you would regularly see in retail). I got it wrong, and wrong again. Needless to say I got hired.....from the sake of my VERY patient attitude.
Later......more like a week later realized that retail is not for me....
I think as long as you are really good at your abbreviations and calculations, you'll do great! Good Luck!👍

Wow I got lucky. My CVS really needed help so my "interview" was a conversation. It was basically come in - get the paper work done and i'm hired. I was really surprised too bc I was called the very next day I submitted the online application!

did you guys have any sort of extensive training when you been hired,,,i started working with CVS , they just gave me cds , am still learning though , not to mention our pharmacy is very very busy and sometimes when i dont know what to do people around me get nervous ..what you guys think i should do

oh my, thank you guys so much!! this info really helped a lot so far...especially the what to ask them, because it is hard for me to think of that, but you gave some great answers, so thank you!!

The interview was kind of an afterthought for me....I feel like they already hired me based off my resume and quick mini phone interview. The in person one was just to see that I could speak correct and clear English and didn't seem like an a-hole. I would suggest not preparing at all, actually 😀 Just match your interviewer in terms of personality. If they seem Type-A and on point....come off as that; if they seem laid back, do the same.

I just started at a really busy CVS and I think the best way to learn quick is to ask the experienced techs to show you how to do something... learn all the Q's what they mean, ask how to punch in refills yourself, try to do inventory when its not so busy... things like that, it helps if you're doing it yourself with them next to you... thats how I learned.

I got the job!! 😀 He only asked three questions, about my experience in customer service, working without being told what to do by a supervisor every 5 seconds, and about how I deal with impatient/angry customers. Now I just have to wait for the state board of pharmacy to approve my national certificate so I can get a raise to 11 dollars 🙂 Thanks again everyone
