Congratulations. You have done it. You've been accepted into dental school and are well on your way to achieving what you've been dreaming about for the last couple of years, you are going to be a dentist.

First off, breathe. That thumping in your chest is your heart racing from all the excitement and you will need to breathe to help supply your body with life giving air. The next step is to jump up and down screaming at the top of your lungs. Feel free to grab the person nearest to you while doing so. Go call your family, your loved ones, your friends. And absolutely do not forget to post it on Facebook. :soexcited:

Step two. Once the excitement dies down, reality will set in a little, and you will realize that life still goes on. But your path is a little more defined. Do not forget about that exam block right around the corner or your homework that's due the next day. You STILL have to pass all your classes.

Over the course of the next few weeks, you will be getting correspondence from your school. A LOT of it. So if you are interested in traveling for any period of time, make sure there is someone reliable who can get your mail and contact you in case the school needs something.

Correspondence will include contracts, financial aid info, and immunization information. The contract is the most important piece of info as it tells you how much your first deposit will be in order to hold your seat (provided you are interested in going to that school). If you aren't, then give the school a call and politely decline your acceptance. If you are interested, be prepared to fork out some serious cash, and be sure to note the deadline. That deposit is usually all you need to confirm your acceptance.

Another helpful hint, is to READ EVERYTHING. There will be a huge laundry list of paperwork and general "stupid stuff" that a school will require from you. If you are anything like me, you generally just skip to the bottom of the page and look for the dotted line to put your signature. This is BAD. At any given time a school may request some information from you, and you do not want to miss a deadline.

I'm not trying to downplay your acceptance. By all means feel free and celebrate to your hearts content. Just know that you will have a lot of growing up to do in the next few years. And it starts now.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

Good advice. Additionally, anyone with a military scholarship under review, get your recruiter the papers (academic year form, acceptance proof) ASAP!
