First of all I want to thank to those who gave me advice and support for the DAT (especially to a guy named croco!)

Lets get to the scores:

AA = 21
PA = 20
QR = 18
RC = 18
Bio = 21
GC = 23
Org = 20

What can I say... I am speechless. These scores were way above my practise tests (15-18's). Here is my advice to those who still havent taken the DAT.

Bio: This section will be like a BIG wave coming through when you start the test, if you start with the right foot, you will do fine, just make sure you read the questions carefully. There were questions out of the Blue... but there arent many of them. The usuals were there; Cell, Genetics, Reproduction, Ecology... and 3-4 circulation questions. I finished 10 mins early in the Natural Sciences section, so I went back, this helped me a lot. I worked on my biology a lot more since most Questions in the NS will be Biology.

GC: Basic Calculations, I was cruising until I got to some tricky calculations. A lot of concepts, especially Thermochemistry!... One question that suprised me was the conversion of temperature (Fahrenheit>Celcius)... I didnt expect something that simple (if you know it) to show up. Again, time was on my side, and I went over this area... I was shocked with my score (normally 17's)

Org: This was suppose to be my strongest section, but there was so many close reactions, designed to be TRAPPED. 70% of questions were reactions. I am not complaining.

PAT: Oh my GOD!.... everyone was right. The Angles!!!!.... One trick that I used was to compare the tips of the angles, if they were more shaded, I guessed them to be the smaller (they all looked similar, the tips made a difference). The cubes was easy, Folding little tricky. The last section always takes more time, since it requires more creativity. Key hole section was NUTS!!.. they wer getting harder as you go on, take your time here... not more than you are allowed, I eliminated the fake answers. Again, I am shocked with 20.

RC: Honestly speaking, the paragraphs was was toooooooo much!, I focused ont the 1st 2 essays so much, I just didn't care much about the 3rd... TIME is CRUCIAL here... definetly in this part.

QR: Just like the topscore. If you know your topscore, you know your math. I was getting 16's on topscore. Few trigs here, at least 3 Questions. Actually I think this is where I did the temperature conversions... (F>C).

Overall, my hard work paid off, and It was a difficult test... don't walk in there without good reviews. I didnt take the Kaplan course, I used my topscore, big Kaplan book, Kaplan CD, flash-cards from Kaplan (good for organics) and Barrons PAT.

I took the test in Boston. The room I was in had 15 machines, some people were taking GRE and other tests. Cameras EVERYWHERE. I took my test 30 mins early because I got there early, I am glad I did. Remember, if you go in there wearing a BIG sweater (like I did), you are not allowed to take it off.... it was getting HOT! ... I want to wish you all the best, and I will be happy to respond with any questions (just like croco did for me).

😎

You da man.

How long did you spend preparing for the exam?

How did you prepare for the PAT?

I studied for the DAT about 5 weeks.

I focused on each section independantly using the big KAPLAN text book... GC 1st, Org 2nd, PAT.. QR and finally the Bio. I spent the last week of my studies answering questions from the MCAT Exam krackers Sciences text books (recommeded by croco) - a lot of questions in these books will give you an idea what you know and what you don't know.... and the more you know, the better you score!

The PAT was something I felt comfortable with from the begining, because you really dont need to study as much time for this section as you need to for other sections, all you need to know is the methods used to solve the problems. I like the key hole section and the Top-Bottom view sections... I just like the puzzle feeling to the whole of PAT section (some people don't find it that way at all), but if you need to do well, then you better get to know the ideas 1st. I think if you get a grib on this section, then you will be fine... EXCEPT the angle section, which was pain in the ehmmm...

I spent 5-6 hours a day to study for this test, those scores did get me more than I expected. So, work 110%, and you will get what you want (depending your practise tests).

Again, Thanks.... and let me know if you want any tip on the DAT.

(Go SOX!!!)

great job! When I took the PAT, I had to stand up, contort my head upside down to figure the angles out.

How much did you know prior to taking your first practice test? Did you have strong background in the sciences?

My major was pre-pharmacy. I am in Pharmacy school now, you could say my strength lies in the sciences, however, I had to study topics that I didnt touch for 2-3 years for the DAT.

It wasnt easy 1st, then after a while you will get a grib and hopefully do well as you plan with whatever strategy works for you.

I don't understand.
Your AA is 21.
However, (18+18+21+23+20)/5=20
Can you explain this?

Anyway, good Job!!

poku46,

AA is not the avg of those scores. it sounds like it is, but i think it is way more complex than just the avg. i believe certain sections of your PAT can make a huge difference on your AA.

i don't know how exactly they caculate AA, but i am sure its not the AVG's of the scores alone.

Perfect,

Wrong my friend. The AA IS the average of your bio, gchem, ochem, QR and RC. PAT has NOTHING to do with the AA. I, too, found a discrepency in the scores that Mo posted. If the scores are what he said they were then his real AA is 20, not 21. Don't worry though, I'm sure he isn't the only person that has done this. Sorry to rain on your parade my friend. A 20 is still great if thats what you got. Mo, please clarify this for us.

Hey guys

Sorry for the late reply (my first weekend not studying for the DAT anymore). I know my AA says 21, and its exactly what I saw with my BIG worried eyes when my DAT scores popped-up on the computer screen. I understand some people are not clear on how this calculation is done, and in my opinion I think the AA score represents all your Natural Sciences scores + QR score, and get the average of those scores, which gives 20.5 (if you do it for my scores), I have no idea if they round this number up to 21, but my AA score clearly shows that they did in my case. So Barry20 was right, the PAT score doesnt count in the AA score.

Either way, AA 21 or AA 20 makes me the happiest man in the world.

you lucky @astard JK

they rounded up, again everyone get off his back, he got a 21. be proud strut your stuff. I wish i had those scores. way to go.

Hey, I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but your scores, as you posted them, add up to 100 exactly. 100 divided by 5 = 20, not 20.5? I know they round up, but in your case it wasn't needed. Better check your scores my friend. You are a lucky b..... if they messed up and awarded you a 21.

Look Barry20...

I have no further explanation for my DAT scores. If you want to see my case as a result of computer error, then feel free to quote me. I, on the other hand, know there is no such thing as computer error for standardised test like the DAT. If my average was 20, then I still feel 100% good about it, but not from somebody on SDN insisting its 20, not 21.

I was looking forward to give some tips for the DAT, not my scores questioned.
