I got a D in General chem and am currently LIU pre pharm. I got A in Calc and A in Micro. While it is inexcusable, there were certain situations that arose but I am just wondering on what course of action to take. Can I extend my Pre professional by 1 semester or will that knock me out of Pre-Pharm and thus take away my preference as a Liu-pre pharm applying to the professional phase.

I know plenty of people who didn't pass. If you had a situation you can ask the professor to give you an incomplete and do some extra work for a passing grade. If not you will take it again and it will be averaged in your pharmcas but not for LIU personal GPA average when they pick their students. You can spend 4 years in pre pharmacy it won't matter to them

I would recommend retaking the class and get a better grade. They will most likely question about it during the interview. I was on the same boat, so I retook the class and improved my grade. So long as you do well on your other classes you should be fine. ACE in organic chem and they will not question your capabilities.

Thanks for the responses, one more question. I think HawaiiLavender answered it but im still a bit confused. If I retake it over the summer, and say I get an A which averages to a C+/B- with my old grade. Will the A replace the D when they compare my GPA to other students GPA's in the selection process or will it be averaged out.

Ooo that I'm not sure about
I hope they just take the higher grade but I know Pharmcas will average it out def. I'm not sure about LIU. You can ask the bursar and it's a different answer from admissions. 🙁
