Hey guys,

I just got my orgo II grade back... and I got a D. Or maybe a D+ but same thing. I emailed my prof to know if I could take the deferred final because I went in with a B+ that I thought would go up to a A. He hasn't replied yet. In my school, D is a passing grade and I'm supposed to be taking biochem next semester (which is starting Monday). I really want to retake Orgo 2 if I can't take the deferred final. There's also a stupid rule that says that you can't retake a course if it's the prereq of something else you're taking.
Should I drop biochem, take my other bio courses (genetics etc), take Orgo 2 in the summer (MCAT summer), and then biochem next winter (it's not offered in fall)? Which would delay me A LOT, because biochem is a prereq for some of my other courses...
Or should I keep going, ace everything including biochem and genetics this semester? I think that I can do it, I've learned a lot from my mistakes and I'm really motivated.

My target school is McGill (I'm in Canada), and Orgo II is not even a prereq for them...
I'm really disappointed and lost, and I don't know what to do know...
Thanks

I can't give you advice on your next steps, but as someone who got an F in orgo 1, I just wanted to let you know that a D in orgo 2 isn't going to kill your chances at becoming a physician.

That is surprising. I've seen your overall stats, they are quite good.

I managed roughly a 97% on orgo 2 and I think many MDs are way out of my league.

What was your retake grade?

Meh my stats are really mediocre. The F was actually in summer community college, so it wasn't exactly a retake but I got an A when I took it at my university that fall. And the reason I got the F in the first place is that I didn't properly withdraw from the course, and by the time I found out 2 weeks later, the class (which was a total 5 week course) was already about to take it's final...

Teaching orgo labs in the summer is a unique experience, that's for sure. Let the chaos ensue.

Ya, well its good to see medical schools being forgiving of an "F" or low grades from time to time. Makes me fee better about a couple abnormalities during my undergrad. experience.

I would just take Biochem and then retake Orgo II at some point in the near future. Make sure you ace Biochem though

Take biochem and Ace it, look to take orgo 2 again at another institution like a nearby public school or community college.

Thank you to all for your replies, I'm gonna go ahead with biochem and will see about orgo 2 later. Maybe I'll retake orgo 2 next year or something!
