I took freshman organic chemistry 2 and got a D. I'm currently a sophomore have since learned the content properly so I'll be able to do well on that section for the MCAT. Should I retake the class at my institution over the summer for a good grade? I go to an Ivy.

The fact that you go to an Ivy is worthless information. Doing well at bumfrick-nowhere college is better than doing poorly at an Ivy.

As far as retaking the class, yes you need to retake this class. Most medical schools will require a minimum of a C in every pre-req classes. It will obviously depend on the school, as some will allow Biochem in place of Ochem 2 and some won’t require Ochem. But the vast majority will require the full year and you need to have at least a C in it.

You have to retake the course. You probably will for your major anyway... if not, then you need at least a C for med schools. The prefers need to be completed before matriculation. I would just retake it and get a better grade haha

Do you go to grade inflation Ivy or grade deflation Ivy? 😉

You have to retake a D.

Acing it at your own school during a full term will look best as opposed to taking it at a CC or taking it over the summer as ad coms will correctly perceive the latter 2 options as attempting to escape rigor.

I know thats true. Do you think that makes the big difference between an acceptance and a waitlist/rejection?

Also technically it will be listed as a different course, since organic chem for freshman is a separate course than just regular organic chem
