  1. Resident [Any Field]
Hi,
I just recently got back my MCAT score and did fine on biological sciences and physical sciences, but basically bombed verbal. This is my second time around and will be applying to both allopathic and osteopathic schools. My question is this: If I do end up going to a D.O. school, what are the chances of matching in a top pediatric internal medicine residency program? I'm particularly interested in pediatric oncology and pediatric cardiology. How about just a good residency program in these fields (doesn't need to be top 10 or such)? Thanks.

Not sure if you mean med/peds residency when you say pediatric internal medicine residency program. Anyway, some of the other threads have made it clear that one can match into a "big name" program as a DO as long as you perform well wherever you go. I say apply to both md and do, and go wherever it makes you happy. You'll go to a good peds program no matter what, and besides, you might change your mind about your future specialty during med school. Good luck!

hi,
I graduated from NYCOM in may of 2003. I am currently a 2nd yr resident at University of Buffalo pediatric program. I think as long as you do well on your boards and get good letters of rec. from attendings you work with you should be fine.
I am not sure about Boston Children's for eg, but most of all I did not find it a problem. Many of my classmates got into their residency of choice.
Also in terms of fellowship it is different in the pediatric world as opposed to IM. Peds are lacking subspecialist so it is easier to get into fellowships. It helps to go to a university program (my opinion) so you work with subspecialits who have connections.
any questions feel free to ask?
hope this helps!
