Hey guys,
Just a heads up. My FAFSA was completed at my schools before their deadline. However, the Dept of Education has decided that my FAFSA will be selected for a process called verification. In addition to sending complete and filed tax returns for both myself and my parentsto each school, this verification process also requires you to send the schools a letter from the Selective Service showing that you are registered. Needless to say, I haven't thought about Selective Service since registering. I contacted the Selective Service at 1-847-688-6888 and they said they will send a letter to me in 10 - 14 days showing that I am registered. If any of you don't have proof that you are registered, you might consider making a call. According to 1 school I talked to, if selected for verification you would have to send this info to all schools.

thanks dada........that is good information to know......i got the same thing from touro and will be submitting my financial aid forms sometime next week....

If I'm not mistaken, there is a verification check that is supposed to be processed on the FAFSA itself. If you check the summary of your Student Aid Report, you will see a section that checks to see if you are registered and what that status is. It is called "Selective Service Match" take a look at that section and see what is says. It should report a match unless for some reason you have a problem. My husband's SAR shows that he is "Match conducted. Applicant is registered"

He is not required to submit anything further than this to his financial aid office as a result of that data so make sure you check your SAR and see what it is reporting.
