Just wondering if anyone has ever heard those words in a sentence?? I'm a D.O. and I really want to do gyn onc. There's only two osteopathic gyn onc fellowships and so I'm in an ACGME program and would like to know if anyone has heard of gyn onc fellowships taking D.O.s. Thanks.

Yes, it is possible for a DO to get an allopathic gyn onc fellowship. This past year 1 DO matched and last year 3 DOs matched. Go to NRMP website (look at data and reports section) for fellowship applicant/matched statistics.

Thanks for the info! it's gonna be a hard journey, but it doesn't seem "impossible".

imamonkey, just wondering what you might advise. Would you recommend taking the USMLE to get into an ACGME obgyn residency? Was told before that it wasn't necessary, but with only 4 ACGME spots left for scramble this year(its what i was told by the obgyn residency director at my hospital) im a bit concerned. Any current DO obgyn residents who want to chime in would be greatly appreciated.

I did not take usmle, had plenty of interviews, and matched at a university program. However, I'm certain I could have gotten attention at more prestigous programs had I taken usmle. Additionally, I think you may limit yourself geographically by not taking it(the nicer the weather/city, the tougher the match).

Even if you are in an allopathic residency, the AOA has made it a lot easier for you to get your program AOA approved which would allow you to train in an osteopathic program. I believe there are 2 GYN ONC, 2 MFM, and 1 REI fellowships out there.
