Any advice for a D.O. student looking to match into an allopathic residency program? Would appreciate any advice from either a D.O. who matched allopathic (did they do an audition rotation, did they have lots of research, high scores, all the above, etc...), and from those M.D.s who are in allopathic programs and have had D.O.s match along side them. Thanks in advance for the advice!

I am not in a DO school myself, and I still just a med student, but my cousin went to Western Health Sciences in Pomona.

Here is a link to their 2009 match list:

As you can see, their graduates matched into some allopathic GS programs, as well as DO programs. I am guessing that your best resource is the NRMP's "charting outcomes in the match"; that will give you some national statistics on qualifications of independent and US Allopathic seniors that matched into GS. I'm assuming that, in general, a good audition rotation will cancel out any bias against DO applicants. Also, try to ask people at you school if there are any well known university programs that have taken a significant number of DOs in the past. I think it's also a really good idea to take the USMLE and do well. Some programs may not know what to make of COMLEX scores, since most of their applicants are providing USMLE scores.
