Hey,
I am currently applying to dental schools in the states. I am a canadian student and im mostly applying to private dental schools in the states. Unfortunately due to family circumstances (my mother was really sick and im the only one taking care of her), my gpa suffered a lot and i got a D+ in my second physics course. I don't know what to do. I graduated this year. I know most schools don't accept anything below a C. Can anyone give me any advise. I worked really hard with all my other courses and my extra-curricular, are my chances done?
Thanks

what did you do, if you don't mind me asking? A couple of people told me to re-take it or should I just leave it?

You have to retake and get at least a C. but hopeffully an A. Or take another upper leverl physics course instead. Either way you need 4 more physics credits C or better.

Retake.

Hard to take an "upper level physics" without having mastered the concepts from the intro course.

Don't do upper level physics. Unlike biology, a strong understanding of physics isn't really needed for dentistry..but I feel like adcom will look more strongly on your application if you got an A in an upper level as opposed to A in the same course.

Key word is A.

Retake for sure. F anomalies are rare. The BU guy didn't post his DAT, ECs, or anything else. Def retake

If the rest of your app is good, you'll be set!

Before you retake, is physics two necessary?

My school only required physics 1 to be completed with a C or above.

I mean if you have all A's and one D. I would just explain it away with what happened.

never mind i totally lied my school requires two semester of physics. i swore it was different thanks doc.

if you think thats bad...

I had a D in ethics (and heres some advice, healthcare schools LOVE to pay attention to these type of classes), and I was asked about it in the interview too "your science and dat scores are great, what happen in ethics? why the D+ there"?.....

that was the same school I am attending currently

Thanks guys,
I think I will end up re-taking it 🙂 hopefully i'll land an A this time!!
