D2 at ASDOH - AMA!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi. I got a couple of questions for you:

1.) Is there a reason why the school emphasizes so much on community service?

2.) How much community service did you do and how much do you recommend someone do if they want to attend ASDOH?

Thanks for taking the time to do this also.

When were you accepted? How many get accepted off wait list? How many are usually on the wait list? Is there a way to find where we rank on the wait list?

Thanks for your time! You're awesome for doing this!

1. Probably because they want us to serve in public health post-graduation. It just depends what you bring to the table. Some in my class has barely any, some have others, but everyone has a neat story behind their admission.

2. Less than you probably think. I won't say exact figures but it's attainable. I'd recommend you diversify your service across multiple areas and not just focus on dental.

Amongst the earlier acceptances. No clue. No idea. Nope.

I see. Thanks for replying and thanks for the tip.

I got a few more questions:

1.) Does the school prefer in-state, specific states, or its pretty much fair game no matter where you are from?

2.) How do you like living in Mesa? Anything good or bad that we should know about it?

1. I'd say the class is split 50/50.

2. I like it. Some good areas, some bad areas. Gilbert is certainly one of the nicer areas. Much more metropolitan than I thought it would be. It gets too hot during the summer.

People say being associated with a DO program is not ideal, thoughts? Also, I hear it's fairly competitive nature there, peers do their own thing. Could you explain?

why does the library close so early? Is there not much to study since its modules?

We don't take classes with the DO program. We barely seem them at all.

How much free time do you have each week? Is it just eat study sleep?

Plenty of time if you plan accordingly, especially D1 year. And by that, I don't mean having Excel spreadsheets and all...I mean just being a little smart and organized and knowing when all the due dates are.

Competition level? Opinion of facility? Thanks!

Competition is reserved for those who want to specialize, even if they don't outwardly acknowledge their intentions. I've heard of some being gunners, and I've seen some students act that way. Other than maybe 5-10 people in our class who give off that vibe, everyone else is helpful and willing to give advice.
