in terms of initials, what does that stand for?

DACLAM = diplomate of the american college of labaratory animal medicine?
Yes that is correct
...Which means you've done a lab animal residency and passed the exam to become a board-certified lab animal specialist. Not impossible to work in lab medicine without specialization, but if you want to move up the administration chain (or just want to be able to command a higher starting salary) I think it can be a significant boost.
