I'm in the process of clearing out all my undergrad stuff from my computer, and on a whim decided to look over some of my past notes and exam material from all my prereqs/random upper-div bio classes/biochem. Only to realize....I barely remember any of that stuff! They all sound vaguely familiar (especially bio stuff), but if you were to quiz/test me on them right now, I don't think I'd do very well (okay, I'd do very poorly actually). I know it's been awhile since I've been in class, but I can't help but start to feel anxious about starting med school if I've already forgotten a large amount of info I learned in undergrad.

Not to mention, I'm definitely scared about not doing well in school to begin with. Yay loads of insecurities are beginning to pile on! 😕:scared::vomit:

Lol I'm pretty sure most of us feel exactly the same way as you do. I did really bad on my bio exam that covered the Krebs Cycle (like bad enough that I barely have an understanding of what the Krebs Cycle even is) and we never got to it in biochem and now I'm super anxious that I'm gonna be totally lost in med school. 😛

All I remember about it is that it follows glycolysis....lol....and something happens afterwards that creates a huge chunk of ATP but I can't remember the name. THIS is what I mean by it's making me worry. My knowledge is worse than a jr high school kid right now.

LOL see I thought the Krebs Cycle INCLUDED glycolysis and then that last thing with the oxygen.

talking about the krebs cycle gives me nightmares to when we had to memorize glycolysis, krebs, etc chain with all intermediate structures and enyzmes and reaction pathways for one biochem exam. It's still stuck in my head so maybe it's a good thing

It sounds horrible but it also pisses me off that I never had to do it. My biochem class was a joke.

yeah it was helpful for the mcat back in our days when we didn't have the best resources 😛

Lol I'm not actually sure how I managed to score whatever I did on the bio section seeing as I knew like zero biochem.

I've been thinking about this often. Throughout my many years of school, it feels like I forget everything from all of my classes. Even for the upper level classes, I feel like we go over basic stuff again that we were supposed to know from prerequisite classes. I think it'll be easier to learn it again since you already know it, but I'm sure it'll happen in med school too. You learn a bunch of information, but then when you actually become a doctor, you only know what you need, and you dump the rest.

I actually didn't mind that universal Krebs test since you were directly rewarded for more study effort, it's all memorization, easy to do well. Much worse walking out of something like an Ochem exam you crammed 30 hours for yet still left half blank.

To OP, everyone forgets the deets. The real takeaway should be at least a little fluency / ability to readily understand what you're reading when you need to look up specifics.

The sad thing is I remember doing part of that in biochemistry, but all I can remember now is a picture of a giant circle with a bunch of arrows going in and out of it. :hungover:

Yes. I think that's a relatively normal experience, but having that VAGUE familiarity of the concepts from some of our pre-reqs may be helpful when we're expected to learn everything again (and then some) at 10x the pace of undergrad. That said, I do NOT think it's a good idea to pre study unless you have seriously major holes in your knowledge base.
