DAE think med students need to grow thicker skin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was chewed out the other day for something we've never been taught. Not that I'm upset about it, but I admit I was caught very off-guard.

He treated me like an idiot for about five minutes then walked off. I can assure you we only learned that x receptor exists and not its density distribution on the skin...
Not picking on you Isoval, but I am reminded of a story by my colleague Dr T
Dr T [On rounds with OMSIIIs]: Student Doctor Jones, can you tell me some of the causes of X?
Jones: "We were never taught that"
Dr T [thinking] Oh yes you were, because I taught that to you...you just forgot it!

Every time a lecturer asks if we had discussed a topic previously around half of the audience says "no" in any given lecture. I cannot figure out what is wrong with these people. Like are they goldfish or are they saying that because they want the lecturer to go over it again? I assume they go on to do this trash in third year as well. The rest of the class is perplexed but the damage is done at that point.

Here’s what I think every time I see a thread like this:

After 4 years of medical school,
1 year of general surgery internship
3 years of surgical sub residency...

I have not once been demeaned, abused, berated, or anything even resembling such things. I’ve heard plenty of people say they have and the numbers are high enough that I have to believe some people have, but I have a hard time believing a whole system could be so bad and I haven’t even experienced it one time in 8 years despite being in a field that can sometimes be known for it.

I’ve definitely had conflicts with people along the way but we worked it out like professional adults and moved forward. I’ve had rough days but usually from a combo of workload with severity of disease rather than any systemic issue. I’ve felt burned out from time to time and had take a step back and regroup but that happened in my past career too and I assume is just part of any profession.

I don’t know if it’s thicker skin people need or what. I think of myself as a fairly sensitive person. Maybe I’ve just coasted along blissfully unaware as i live a life of unicorns farting rainbows.

At least at my med school, med students LOVED to over-exaggerate.

Lol I think this is why indians and other asians do so well in medicine. We've been getting pimped by our parents since 6 years old. Started with the times tables

Or maybe because this. My dad used to pimp me on the 20x20 times table.
