Hi.
I just wanted to ask Dartmouth students whether you get to do most of your clinical rotations and electives at the Lebanon Hitchcock hospital, or do you end up going to other places. I've heard some rumor that Dartmouth can't accommodate students at their hospital, and ends up sending them to Arizona, Alaska, etc for some rotations. Is there any truth to that?
Thank you.

Medicine must be done at DHMC. Half of surgery has to be done at DHMC, but if you want to go somewhere else for the other half, you can. Psych can be done at the state hospital, the VA, or DHMC - again, by choice. If you want to stay home, you can.

Family medicine is obviously done at away sites. There is an option to do it at an indian reservation in Arizona, Key Westm or to go up to Alaska, but no one was sent there - you must pick it. Arizona is pretty popular, actually.

For peds, half is inpt at DHMC, half is outpt. You can stay local for that or go to LA (CHOC), Arizona, etc. OB is the only one that is really limited for staying at DHMC - I think it is something like 3 or 4 per block (of 10 students). But the home spots for that one don't seem to fill up so fast in the lottery that you would be sent away if you didn't want to be.

Thanks Chowdah,
This sounds a lot better than the rumor!
