Hey all. I'm taking the DAT on the 29th of this month, and I was just wondering if you guys opted to do the 15 minute tutorial at the beginning of the test. I'd imagine it'd be useful for making grids for hole punching and cube counting on the PAT, but is there anything else you did as preparation for the test during this time?

Definitely make your grids. Make sure you take that sheet and put it aside and make sure your proctor doesn't take that sheet away if you raise your hand to replace the other sheet. Other than that, just skim through the tutorial for a bit so you can get a feel for the format of the test.

They told me I could not write during the tutorial. Therefore I could not set up my PAT stuff.

I could not write during the tutorial so I just skipped it and used the extra time I had left over during the natural science section to make my grids

i think once you sign in and enter the room you get like 5 min to sit down and get situated and then the 15 min tutorial begins. i started writing right away and no one said anything to me. if you don't like the papers they give you, ask them for new ones right away. test the pens out, if you don't like them or they're old ask for new ones. don't be afraid to ask for these things! this is YOUR test!

This is great advice--I've taken other standard tests at these testing centers and often the pens are dried out or the tips smashed so they don't write clearly. It's just too important not to make sure you have good equipment.
