So is this exam going to keep me from dental school, Im a good student I know im am I do good in school nothing less a B. So i took the first exam last year and scored really low now that was my fault I prepared 4 weeks and had a surgery and stayed home a week and after that I thought I remeber it and did so bad. Now This July I took the DAT and got bad scores too and this time I did prepare alot, I think that Im not good at standarized exams piano by the way. I talked to myslef and said that I can do better. So I took it today and was running through bio like so easy until I saw that frap q then my mentallaty changed. So I dont know why after I finished the science my eyes were tired, cuz i slept only 3 hours and took the exam 7 pm, I couldnt goo to sleep its scary thinking about the exam. So I totally messed up the nonsciences here are my scores:
Bio 21
Gen 17
Orgo 19
reading 14
PAT 14(line counting doesnt work on the exam)
Math 12
Total sci 19
ACAd 17

GPA 3.6, and was a member of Americoprs( national community service) for one year, and recently recieved the community service Award by the community along with our Mayor and Congress and several others! I workd for a year with a dentists, and shadowed alot.

Do you think I have a shot at dentistary this year?? I took DAT 3 times and as im writing this I feel like crying

please be honest! IF you have q's about DAT please ask! In the end we are all here to help each other!
God bless you all!

Yeah, that is pretty discouraging. However, you can petition to take the DAT a fourth time with the ADA. But, I would consider some other options first. What study resources have you utilized (DAT Acheiver, Kaplan, etc.)? Maybe enroll in a dental hygiene program, and try again later. I've taken mine once, and I did horrible (AA 15). Currently I've been studying hard, but at my own pace, and I'm not ready to throw in the towel, even though I've considered it many times. If this is what you really want, then don't take no for an answer. Get in contact with people on admissions committees, talk to professors, and dentists. Pre-dental students (like myself) are very limited in the amount of info. we can give. Trust me, we've all encountered some sort of difficulty with this. Good Luck, and keep fighting!

Hey,

I think we got the same test. It was a hard week to take the exam because the threw us a really hard test. My non-science also stinks too!

UR GPA is really good, probably above the average. So there's hope there. Did you submit your application already. If you did, then just kick back a lil and your never know whats going to happen. No one on SDN can tell you or predict the outcome of next year. Just ride it out, I think U have a chance and if anything goes retake it again next year. Best of Luck!!!

How were your scores on the other tests? Some schools look at the highest in each section, not exactly sure which ones though.

Eeek! I am sorry you got those few low scores. Did you have some kind of test anxiety with the math and other parts that scored a little low? How did that happen?

im wondering how you did on your other tests also? I dont understand it when people say theyre not good at standardized tests. To me, that really isn't a good excuse (sorry if that sounded mean). But honestly, what materials are you using to study? Depending on how you did on your first two tests, I really wouldve focused on the weak areas that you did bad in.

Someone mentioned it, some schools have a max of 3 test you can take, but you can always try and do a petition. Best of luck to you.

The schools dont have a max, its the ADA that has a max and you usually need a written letter from a dental school saying that they want you to retake in order to consider your application Then you usually get to retake a 4th time. I would definitely try that, because with a 12 on QR and a 14 PAT and RC there is almost zero chance for this year. Youve got great extracurriculars it seems so def retake focus on those sections. I think if you could do a litle better you would have a pretty good shot. Just try and raise each of those scores by like 4 points and apply again. If you havent sent your aadsas in yet, I wouldnt pay for it, in all likelyhood you will be wasting your money. Im so sorry about this go round, get your spirits up and try once more. You will get there just have some patience and change your study habits/ incorporate more material.
