Hi!
I took the DAT today and I didn't do that great. I studied 1.5 weeks in December and the past 3 weeks for about 5 hours a day average with a few days off.

17 PAT
19 BIO
19 OCHEM
20 GCHEM
19 RC
19 QR
19 AA
19 TS

I guess these are okay scores but I'm wondering if they are good enough for my GPA. I have a 3.3 overall and 3.0 science. I don't think a breakdown is necessary because there are several amazing breakdowns on sdn by people who did much better than me. If anyone still has any questions please feel free to ask.
Does it seem that a retake will be necessary?

Thanks!
The scores are definitely ok but with a lower GPA I think that will hurt you. Also, I think it's partly your own fault because since you knew you had a lower GPA you should've studied for more than 3 weeks/5 hours a day. But the fact that you were able to get those scores with that little studying is definitely impressive but too bad there's no asterisk for your scores.

The good news is all your scores are above the cut offs, so you can apply with these scores, although they could be more competitive with a retake. I would recommend these two things: first, get a copy of the ADEA Guide to Dental Schools and see what the average stats are for each entering class in the schools you're interested in, and compare your GPA and DAT scores to theirs to see where you stand. Realize the average is just an average, and people with stats below the average also get accepted. Second, contact the schools you're interested in and ask for their opinion on your DAT score. After all, what they think matters the most. Congrats on taking the DAT by the way, it's not an easy feat to get through. If you decide to retake feel free to email me for some advice on how to prepare the second time around.

Hi syedj94,

First I want to say your scores are very consistent and you did not receive any low scores! Dental schools like that. Don't compare yourself to others, I work with many many students and I guarantee your scores are right on par with a lot students.Only a handful of students post scores on SDN so don't compare yourself. I personally do not think I retake will be necessary if you apply to the right schools.

I would contact the schools directly with your stats and get their advice, my concern is not your DAT scores, it is more the science GPA.

I have the current stats for the 2014 schools acceptances so message me and I will send that to you.

Wishing you the best and job well done!

Nancy

Thanks for the input guys 🙂
A retake would have to be in October which I think is pretty late for this cycle. Plus I already E-submitted my application 6/4. So hopefully things will work out this way or I can retake again if not. I'm slightly below the school's GPA average and above the DAT average a bit.
Yea I think at this point just go ahead with what you have this cycle and hope to get an interview and CRUSH IT.
