I am an non-traditional candidate (older than 23 😉 single mother with a child with developmental differences). Undergrad in the arts. Post grad in Europe. I've done thousands of hours of literacy work, 50+ shadowing hours. My top school has a science average of 19 and an AA of 19.4. Huge public health component, as well. Do I even have a shot at an interview?

Just my thoughts, but I think you have a good shot. Make sure the schools you are applying to don't have a DAT cut off of 17 for that Bio score though, or they won't even look at the rest of your application, so I've heard.

You're fine. If you're talking hard, explicit cut-offs, the 16 Bio will only count out Pacific, Howard, and LSU. What did your TS come in at?

The overall picture is nice. A non-trad with delicious GPAs and about average scores...of course you'll snag interviews. Just don't go off applying to only a handful of schools.

TS: 17 I could have cried. However, at least my transcript will show that I have not taken extensive bio yet. I've had to space everything out in order to manage my child's developmental needs and therapies, so have only taken one bio, two gen chems and an o chem over three semesters. The kiddo has made amazing progress, so I may be able to take a full load next year to better prepare for dental school itself. Would including that in the courses "in progress" aid in buffering that abysmal bio score?

My top and really only choice in school is a state school with both a high resident interview percentage and more women than men in the new class.

Taking more bio courses can definitely show that you're trying to pick it up before Dental-school. It can't be interpreted negatively I feel.

If your chosen schools don't have that pesky 17 cutoff, you should be fine. With that very high GPA, you do show you're a good student!

This is a tricky one, I think you'll be okay since you have an excellent GPA. If it was me I would probably retake (I was in a similar situation with my 1st DAT before I retook) but I don't have the responsibilities that you have so I had the time to study again. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. 👍

I think that being a non-trad student, also with a child, and having studied abroad will make your app stick out more than the average applicant. I think you have a shot at an interview. The average is 19, so that means that a majority of the acceptances are right around your scores (some even a little less) and your gpa is great! Being on par with the majority of acceptances and sticking out as an applicant like you do (in my mind) would give you a better shot at an interview.

I can't speak for all schools, but I know that some schools really appreciate the maturity of having a few more years under your belt as a positive asset, and to also have a child shows your time management skills have got to be great to get as far as you have. You might want to mention how having a child has made you a better person because you had do become more flexible and a better time manager. Good Luck!!

With your scores, GPA, and personal history I definitely think you have a shot at a number of interviews. Dental schools really admire those from all over that wish to pursue a career in dentistry. It looks as though you really want this, and dental schools will definitely invite you for interviews.
