I just took the DAT today and honestly I thought I would do better but unfortunately these are my scores.
PAT - 20 🙁
QR - 19
RC - 16 :scared:
Bio - 19
General Chem - 18 😕
Organic Chemistry - 20
TS - 19
AA - 18 :/

I honestly thought I would do way better, but now I am depressed. The biology questions had too much application on topics less covered like fluorescence. The RC section I thought was pretty good that I understood it, but it looks like I dont. My GPA is 3.1 and I was aiming for 21+. I need advice on, if I have time to retake it and still get interviewed or if my scores are acceptable, I mean I don't have no preference. I would like to go to anyschool that accepts, sad to say. Any advice? :xf:

the 16 might be a problem, u shouldc check, but everything else is good! was ur test filled with data analysis and charts etc? what was ur rc passages on?

RC was like scientific journals and most of the questions were like what do you think this author meant by this and they had multiple authors in the passage. The first one was like 15 paragraphs long, which took a while. Then the second was the scientific journal and it was hard to understand because it was like cut and past articles in one passage. Then time was a issue, so I just started guessing, thought I would make better though because I found most answers, but I guess they are tricky questions. 16 is a problem, if I take it again in November would that be too late?

Yeah please explain what happened. The one other dude who bombed today was too emotionally distraught to post a detailed breakdown of what went wrong.

Also is english your first language?

As for applications...you're stuck in a tough spot. Your GPA is holding you back, as well as that RC score. Send it in anyways, since it's already late, but expect to retake it.

Hmm what went wrong...Well a good way to start the test with some random application bio problems. Nothing close to the DAT destroyer or anything I read in Cliffs Notes. Atleast 20 of them were random questions you never thought they will ever talk about.

The PAT everything was easy except the poke a hole thingy they did like weird folds, the keyhole were mostly similar with a slight difference. There were some where I was like WTH?

Then General chemistry I only had three or four application equation problems which I am really good at, and the rest were conceptual, not just stuff you need to know some tricky ones.

Organic Chemistry I guess had more working problems which is why I did better, and less conceptual. Um know reagants and what they do.

Reading - ughhh its my second language so it takes me a while to understand some stuff. Like I said before the first passage was 15 paragraphs long, which will take time. The second one was a scientific passage filled with articles from different authors trying to prove a topic or something. And in this passage it is mostly what did the author, how should it end, what did he mean by this and that. Unfortunately by the time you finish this passage you will be running low on time, then be nervous for the third passage which was scientific as well but more essay like. So it was easier to read but hard to find answers because it was long.

Math - It was Ok I guess they had some weird ones, where I just didn;t have the time to work out because required several conversions and trig functions in one problem so guessed.

Overall I didn't feel tired at the end of the exam, I actually thought I would do better, but the RC section totally brought me down.

that confirms it... u should hop on over to the threat that has WTF X 100000. the guy took the same dat test as u and was talking about the exact same thing... seems as if the dat put in a 'trial' test for u guys and u got unlucky...

same boat as you ... 16 on RC 🙁 how's the rest of your application look? I posted about my DAT and most people said that 16 might be cut off for some schools but not all of them. Stay positive and congrats at least you're done with the test now!

I took my dat today too and i need some serious help.

Pat:18
Aa:17 (with super low scores in bio, chem and organic, a 16, 15 and 15 respectively but a 25 on readimg comprehension and a 16 on qr)

I know these scores are horrid (combined with my 3.4 total gpa with a 3.0 science gpa and a 3.9 non science gpa)

I want to retake my dat but that would mean taking it in late november, early december when application cycles are already over. Is it possible for me to apply to take it tommoro but then not schedule it till november 20th? Do you all feel that even if you show that you are going to retake it you will have a better chance for interviews?

Also i applied to every single private school (my state does not have a state school) is it possible i will even get any interviews? Im freaking out here!

I bet they are trying to make this test harder because of bunch of those 23+ during summer. God that sucks for people like me taking it next year.

if u take it next year qr doesn't count. also ALL the scores will be adjusted. as well as u don't know how many ppl actually got 23+ a day, all we hear on sdn is the one person who gets it each day, keep in mind that 98th percentile means if there is 100 ppl only 2 got that score... percentile represents the ppl who achieved the score. the real problem is the fact that the scores 1-30 do not represent the percentle whatsoever

Can you please elaborate on qr doesn't count please... I am taking in mid-Jan.. Thanks

Damn, third breakdown I've read today of SDN'ers not doing as well as they'd hope. I take mine in the morning. Can't say it's boosted my confidence haha.

I dont mean to sound harsh but judging from your posts, it seems like you didnt really prepare for RC. Most DAT RC passages are science-related articles (besides a few passages about ethics and etc) and often times they have tone / inference questions that test whether or not you understood the overall idea of the passages. 15 paragraphs arent that long, especially if you practiced with RC materials such as CDR that contain passages with over 24 paragraphs. If youre gonna retake DAT, I would advise you to spend your time improving your reading speed and skills by using practice materials such as CDR, Topscore, or even Achiever if you really wanna challenge yourself. Gluck.

Your scores are fine, except for RC being low. it might hurt you. and the stupid RC brought your AA down to. but hey if you applied this cycle and on the fence regarding a retake, just wait till jan or feb and see if you get any interviews/acceptances, if not study for retake. because even though you are about average with your dat score, the rc section might bother some schools. but your gpa is little below average, but a higher dat score should balance it out.

For RC. its just practice. the more you practice, the better you get

You are absolutely right! I honestly did not prepare as most people did, I thought I would try it without all this expensive software. But now I did purchase the CrackDat package to better study. I am definitely taking it again. Thanks again for your instructive criticism!

Yes I am totally taking it again, this time I will use the software that is out there to better my reading skills and improve everything else as well! Thanks!

So just an update, I have not got any interviews for the past cycle. I prepared more for this upcoming DAT that I have on August 24, 2013. Hopefuly this time around I score 4 points higher in each section. I have my bachelors in biology with a gpa of 3.17 and science gpa 3.25. I am doing the one year biomedical program. I am sure I will be able to get 3.7+ in this masters program, because I will have more time to study, no work!!!
