Finally got the beast done and it feels great to finally relax. I didnt get the 29s that every other poster seems to get, but I am satisfied.

    PA: 20 (88.2)
    AA: 20 (86.1)
    TS: 20 (86.9)
    BIO: 21 (93.5)
    GCH: 21 (88.3)
    OCH: 19 (73.5)
    RC: 20 (65.6)
    QR: 17 (65.6) :(

Overall, I thought the real DAT was easier than the practice tests i took...it's really not that bad. To study, I went through the Kaplan Blue book front to back, then started taking practice tests on Wednesday and Friday mornings. I would then go through the tests and study any questions I got wrong. I only used Kaplan, Barrons for PAT, and my textbooks in Gen Chem, O chem, and Bio. I bought the Schaum's Bio, Gchem, and O chem, but never looked at it.

BIO: This section was very random and general. i wish I hadn't studied things in such detail. I spent probobly 4-5 hours memorizing things from respiration and photosynthesis and I got one very easy question on both of them. I had one pretty easy classification questions, and easy evolution, one about angiosperms/gymnosperms....I didnt think it was too bad.

GCH: A little harder than I thought it was going to be I'm used to figuring out the value for an answer and their written out working of the problem kind of screwed me up. I would say that it is comparable to Top score without the very difficult calculation problems. Grading is also easier than Practice tests.

OCH: Similar to Top score. I had one easy question about amino acids, carbohydrates, separation, and IR +NMR. Didnt think it was too bad, but there were a couple synthesis problems that screwed me up a little.

RC: Very similar to the practice tests. There were more questions that asked what is the mood or if there was one more sentence at the end what would it be. But they were pretty easy. My topics were comets (easy) Brain imaging (middle) and neuroreceptors (hard)

QR: I knew I was going to do worst on this section. I really hope my 17 doesnt affect my chances, but I have a 3.99 GPA, lots of extra-cirricular stuff, and pretty solid DAT scores on all, but this section. SO, hopefully they don't think I will be a terrible dentist because I cant do trig or rate problems....at least I tell myself that to make me feel better  The section was very similar to practice tests. Lots of the questions I had seen before. While taking it, i thought I was going to get a 15, so I was strangely happy with a 17.

SO, to summarize, don't worry too much about it, if you've taken enough practice tests, the real thing will feel like just another day. It feels great to be done. I would have posted yesterday but I had a hangover from hell  If anyone has any questions...feel free to ask.

    forgot....
PAT: Very similar to top score.... Keyholes and Top-front end are like top score. Angles were difficult, but i didnt think they were near as bad as some have said. 14 of the paper folding were like top score, 1 was a b*tch similar to achiever. Cubes was normal...no surprises. Pattern folding: study the practice problems where a shape is constructed. I think I only had one of two where you had to determine which faces are near one another.

    congrats,

can you tell us what most of the bio questions were about?

  6. Now, these scores I believe! the 29's are bogus numbers. Undoubtedly posted by Dr. Romano, himself.

Most of what I can remember was in my original post....the whole thing is kind of a blur....I had a genetics questions about which of the following can be the parents if X and Y were offspring for a dihibrid cross. I would say don't waste too much time studying details of classification, ecology, or evolution...I think all my questions were covered in Kaplan's blue book. I had one circulatory questions...but no other anatomy/physiology.

I disagree with you saying Achiever PAT is a waste of time. I had an exact folding pattern from an Achiever test on the actual DAT. Also, the paper folding on Acheiver prepares you for those really hard ones on the actual DAT. (just my opinion)

CONGRATS! I have similar practice scores as you so I hope I can get similar scores this friday.

I think the same thing (as someone said above) about all these 99 percentile scores...some people must be lying. Either that or SDN is really made up of the smartest dental students. Who knows.

Btw did you get any similar/exact questions from Achiever or Topscore?

    Thanks.

congrats to you...i think qr is difficult for most

  14. Nice scores. You and I got the same scores in QR and RC but my percentiles are higher by about 10%. A 20 in RC is a very solid score and it translating to a 65% is ridiculous but at least the adcoms won't see it.
