Why cant the answer also be A? Even if you use the e-drawing program, it shows that shape.. I had a problem like that some other test too but i dont know why they are incorrect. It seems like they are in scale too. help me. anyone.

I must disagree. I would say D as well. Do you have Achiever and is that the actual answer?

The reason A is WRONG is due to proportion. The questions in this section are designed not only to test your mental ability to rotate things in your mind but also to judge relative size. Choice A is much too small to be correct, although it is a good answer trap.

Be wary of such obvious answers. If you see one of these I would rule out the others before making a decision.

BTW, it cracks me up how you sign out of every post. 😀

Also, look at the relative vertical lengths of choices B-D. They are all similar and A is much smaller.

Wait, size of the hole matters? I thought they are okay as long as they are in proportion?for example, if the object's dimension was 4x4 and one of the answer choices was in 2x2 of the same exact shape,then that answer choice is wrong? Btw the answer IS C. D is wrong b/c the width should be thicker.

WHat! I am at a loss. I see now and agree that it should be thicker. But trying to figure out how they got C is going to make my head implode. I just CAN'T see it.

I am fairly certain or A would be absolutely right on the money.

Here is my take.
C is the correct answer.
B is wrong because of too many sides.
E is wrong because the middle piece is too wide.
A and D are wrong because of lacking the tiny pieces that would be resulted by the vertical edges of the higher bar. Also, D is too thin .

From my experience, size does not matter. If scaling down or up will give you the right shape, it is the correct choice.

Here is my take.
C is the correct answer.

Using the 3d program provided by DAT achiever, there are no edges showing. I get the exact same shape as the object, just a bit smaller.

if you look at the first page of Kaplan's PAT section in the blue book it says:

1) The object and the opening are drawn to the same scale.

2) It also says that the correct opening MUST be one of the three projections: top-bottom, front-back, and side.

This question is obviously poorly written if those are the ADA guidelines because the top-bottom would look similar to E (with a wider box on the left side), the front back would look like A only larger, and the side would look like D only thicker.

Choice C is actually the top-bottom view slightly rotated. And that my friends is just mean.

Isn't it so obvious? A and B can't be the answer due to common sense.
C and E can't be answer due to common sense.
Thus D is the answer.
I don't know why u guys don't understand this.
just use commoon sense!

right top and left bot are triangle.
right bot and left top are (almost) square
Thus A and B can't be the answer.


The part that came out of the plane goes from one end to the other end so it can't be C or E.

Only D makes sense.

it's C. Yes, the piece has to fit the size of the hole, not just be in the correct corresponding proportions

If you look at C, you'll see that the wider area is about twice as thick as the thinner area, which is about right when looking at the piece. Also, if you look carefully at the two pieces that cross touch the edges of the hexagon, you'll see the thicker one is flush against the edge of the hexagon while the other thinner one that is taller doesn't quite reach the edge of the hexagon flush, that's why there is a little step in the wide part of the keyhole.
